Matalin: President Needs to be Less 'Self-Reverential' to Make Progress With Republicans

What is it with these Republicans who just can't stop themselves from coming just a hair shy of calling the President of the United States "uppity?" Last week, Bill-O was calling him "cocky" during his Talking Points Memo segment on Fox. Now we've got Lady McCheney Mary Matalin on Mrs. Greenspan's show calling him too "self-reverential" and "self-righteous" and that he wants Republicans to go along with him and pretend they care about doing their jobs and legislating, he'd better start acting nicer to them.

Andrea Mitchell reminded her that he didn't exactly have much good will from the other side, what with them immediately plotting on how to obstruct everything he tried to do from the day he got elected ........

However, as she stated it, 'self-reverential' is meaningless, and it looks suspiciously like the commonly-used phrase 'self-referential.' She could have used any number of words or phrases with the same meaning as what she intended to convey (in such an instance, personally, I favor 'sanctimonious'), but she made up a malapropism instead...and this from someone who makes her living through manipulation of the language?

Witht the election of a black President, we've not seen racism wane, we've seen it thrust to the forefront.

Obama has been gracious and humble, compare his words and actions to "I'm the decider" and "bring em on" Bush.

There is not way to not call it racism. They think Obhama is uppity, that's all.

The racists have been simmering for years. They can't use the N-word in public anymore and they HATE that. That word gave them power.

But for years now, that word was no longer accepted in public, so they had to keep it to themselves and only use it in certain company.

Then America actually elected "one of them" gasp ... and the racists went from simmer, to full boil.

And now on a regular basis, they boil over.

GWB revered himself highly enough to run for president, lose and take office anyway. Now that is self-reverential.

The "Party of Personal Responsibility" seems to have nothing but excuses for why they can't work with President Obama. Anyway, politics isn't about being buddies. It's about governing the country and doing what's best for the American public. Personal feelings and camaraderie is not what it's all about and if Republicans are so sensitive to real or perceived slights from the President, then, frankly, they really shouldn't be in politics/government in the first place. Anyway, it's not as if Republicans have been quite that friendly towards President Obama during the last 4 years. Hell, they supported or at least encouraged their rabid teabagger "base" to question his citizenship for nearly 4 years! Democrats had to grit their teeth and work with Bush for 8 years and stand with him against Al-Queda and OBL and were able to do it despite Bush and Rove constantly flipping them the bird and practically calling them traitors if they uttered anything slightly negative about him and/or his policies. Republicans should or ought to be working with President Obama to help fix the economy and bring back some measure of prosperity to our country after the financial meltdown and damn-near depression of 2008 but they're not and no amount of President Obama prostrating himself before them will make Republicans any more eager and willing to work with him to do this, so................

Getting the Republicans to click the LIKE button it's a fool's errand, and the president already knows it. Matalin's just going through the usual performance.
