How and WHY have the Republicans become an enemy of the people?
It is truly difficult to understand how an entire, entrenched political party would allow itself to become an outright enemyy of the people by standing so strongly against average Americans benefiting from anything at all in the way of political policy.
I have never been a Republican although I voted for Charles Percy of Ill. for senator because he opposed the war in Vietnam back in 1968. That is the only R vote I ever cast in my life. But what has happened to any semblance of sanity on their side of the aisle? The only policy they are committed to is more tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans and any chance to jump into a war. They oppose literally anything that benefits average people or the less fortunate in this country in terms of safety net social programs. Unemployment. Soc. Sec. Medicare, Medicaid, Food Stamps, middle class tax cuts, equal pay, Dream Act, gay rights of any kind, you name it... they are diametrically opposed to any program that does not directly benefit the wealthy or largest corporations. They would rather the NRA run roughshod over the Constitution with its distorted perspective than act in the safety of our children They oppose anything Obama proposes on the budget unless it would somehow "penalize" most Americans and benefit the few at the top. They oppose any cuts in the behemoth military budget and want to spend even more than is asked for. It is like we are fighting a 7-headed hydra in the body of the Republican party. Since this is how they want to play it, all we can do is cut off one head at a time till we're done with it once and for all and hopefully that day is coming. Austerity sucks

9. This is it, in a nutshell
all the other factors have been there for years, but what we have now is a generation of people who have been fed right wing bullshit to the point where they actually believe it.
The $$$ to be made in creating an insular "conservative" bubble since the advent of AM radio in the 80s, blooming in the 90s along with other media platforms for "conservative" propaganda, giving way over the last 10+ years to an explosion in conferences and gatherings, has created a complete alternate reality that jackasses like Paul Ryan and Eric Cantor have grown up in. There is a NEVER ENDING string of scumbags like Limbaugh, Beck, Coulter, and past elected douchebags like Gingrich and Armey, who know they can make a darn fine living spewing this nonsense. When you have a sitting senator, with four years left in his term quite to run the Heritage Foundation, you know it is bad. I seriously doubt this can be unwound. |

3. they're not....the reactionary rightwing is the enemy
too bad, after 100's of years of being exploited by the reactionarkys, that folks can't/won't see the ease with which they're sent off on wild goose chases.... If 'republicans' were really the bad guys, then do yall think foxnews would point it out? how can anyone TRUST foxnews (ie the pig media, mainstream media aka the news/info MEDIA!)
George Orwell pointed out how the ruling elitists (the 1 percenters) liked to use confusing language in order to scatter their opponents. Neuter them. And now their opponents INSIST on using very same confusing language! Why? Lincoln was a Republican. The good guys in Spanish Civil War were Republicans..so how can foxnews be REPUBLICAN! no. They're reactionary rightwingers filled with hatred for the common people. Mind you, they are human, with 2 eyes and a nose and a big bank acc't etc; they do eat an sleep and some even work.... |

4. The Shitpublican Party has been going downhill perhaps even before Nixon
They have become a party that does NOT believe in democratic principles and thus do not fit well in a country such as the US (I suspect they would do great in Iran if they accepted Islam).
Welcome aboard. Stay a spell. ![]() |

5. The Republican Party of 2012 is, imnsho, a constitutional enemy within, a domestic enemy as
demonstrated by their total body of work (obstruction). Almost everything they stand for is anathema to every founding principle, their almost every action is solely to promote the welfare of the most affluent and large corporations rather than to promote the general welfare. What more needs to be said? How can a der mittens-type get even 20% of the vote, much less 47%?

6. The GOP Embraced Bitter Segregationists, Christian Reactionaries, Wall Street Greed Heads, Neocons..
sexists, homophobes, anti-labor, anti-elderly, anti-child, etc.
You embrace all of these groups, and soon you become an enemy of the people. |

7. Thom Hartmann plays clips of Reagan from the 40s/50s when he supported labor and Democrats
Rather articulate actually. Somewhere along the way though, the one percent got hold of him and said, "Listen son, this is how the world is. You're going places and we like you. How'd you like to get rich along the way?" Suddenly he's a conservative Republican representing the interests of the one percent.

10. Because millions of people let them
That's it, I'm afraid. At the root is money, of course; buy the sympathies of another 5% and Romney is President with a majorities in both houses. They're viable, they're what a lot of people want.
They won a landslide in 2010. Don't, for goodness' sake, piss your pants when Democrats actually have to COMPROMISE with them. Validating the GOP by handing them some branch of power when their brand should be in the dirt isn't the way to say to Obama "America wants left leaning government". As long as they control a branch, as long as the filibuster remains in its current state, they are a branch of government which, unfortunately, has to be dealt with. |
