2013 VA Governors Race-Terry McAulliffe-Gun Control

In the wake of the tragic elemetary school shooting deaths in Newtown,CT
Democratic US Senators especially from southern states who have pro NRA ratings (Mark Warner-VA and Joe Manchin-WV) have been calling for stricter gun control laws.
Virginia is a pro gun region-especially in the Southwestern area.
Terry McAulliffe is the likely Democratic nominee in the 2013 VA Governors Race.
If McAulliffe takes a pro gun-control position- would that be okay for him in the November General Election or does he have to remain silent and let Cuccinelli-R make a fool of himself in front of the TV cameras or on the campaign trail.

react to the shooting in Newtown. Joe Scarborough has reversed his position. If more high profile, previously NRA supporters do, then McAulliffe would be wise to push for an increase in gun control. In Southwestern VA, however, he will have to tread carefully if he wants to win.

Senator Manchin, I enjoyed listening to him this morning. He is correct in saying everything has to be on the table including talking with members of the NRA. Could this be "the" incident that leads to gun reform??
Gun reform you Rs NOT taking away the 2nd amendment.

When Bush-R carried every Southern State including AR,KY,TN,and WV-Clinton States and Midwestern States like OH and MO.
2004-Bush was expected to win every Southern State including FL, Kerry-D was focused on winning Midwestern States such as OH,IA,and WI and Southwestern states such as NM and NV.
2008-Obama-D was able to carry VA,FL and to a greater extent NC-due to higher than expected voter turnout among non-whites.
2016-Assuming the Republicans nominate Jeb Bush or Marco Rubio, VA is the only southern state-the Democratic Presidential Nominee is likely to carry.
The Democratic Nominee's (Non-Hillary) electoral vote base is
272ev including CO,IA,NV,NH,and WI.

I just came off of a race there and guns are a tough issue.

However, the Congressional district that represents Southwest Virginia had a shooting spree of their own in 2007 and it has not been forgotten.
