http://www.politico.com/blogs/burns-haberman/2012/11/obama-and-romney-to-have-lunch-tomorrow-150497.htmlThe Romneys, by all accounts, have had a hard time in the last few weeks with the fact of the loss, but the lunch may be a step toward moving past it - and toward the former candidate moving toward the next phase of his life.
I read on Twitter that apparently this is a tradition that goes back to 1960, when Kennedy had lunch with Nixon and they joked that they didn't know who really won. I know Obama met with McCain after the 2008 election, but I don't remember if Clinton or Bush did this.
Apparently the president also plans to meet with Ryan at some point in the near future.

(11,605 posts)I would love to be a fly on the wall at this one. And in 2016, if Christie runs, I would love to be a fly on the wall when Romney casts his vote.
I would have loved to be a fly in the voting booth when the Clintons voted in 2008 and when McCain voted in 2004.

(5,810 posts)election night statement. I do think he wants to do the right thing and help the entire country (even those who voted for Romney) to move on and move forward. It's not just a saying for him. I do think he wants all of us to do better and to see a better day.....unlike Mr. Romney who only thought about the other half after he got caught making a very ugly statement that revealed his true feelings.
Part of me wanted him to just leave Romney dangling and never offer the invitation to the White House. After the nasty tone Romney took a few days after the election (when he gave a really decent concession speech), I was po'd and figured it would be a cold day in hell before he got invited for a meeting with President Obama. Lots of other politicians would have done that and never gotten an argument from anyone. But our guy is bigger than that. I am proud of him for doing what he said he would do.
I like the spine I am seeing from our President but being decent to a guy he just whooped so soundly is a first class thing to do! And shouldn't surprise any of us.

But Obama IS a classy guy. Hell, he even met with ME last July. Now, THAT'S a gesture, let me tell you!

(11,605 posts)If so, you are very lucky. I got to shake his hand four years ago but have never had the chance to talk to him, sadly. Maybe someday.

(297,154 posts)go out and brag how the President said he thought Romney would win except along came Sandy? What lie will he come up with to soothe his savage sociopathic soul?
If it's mitt he's lying. Everything in the campaign that he did to win ..Didn't work. And, we know he did anything to win..he just didn't have what it takes.

(1,933 posts)butt-kissing by Obama. If he gives Rmoney any part in this administration, I will never, ever vote Dem again - ever.
You can't be nice to someone who has treated you so shabbily unless you have no self-respect. I hate to think that about Obama, but he would be no better than an abused wife going back for more bruises.

(11,605 posts)It's a gracious thing to do.
I doubt he will offer Romney a role in the administration. He met with John McCain in 2008 and did not offer him a role.

(11,605 posts)At Gore's VP residence. The media noted how brief the meeting was.
I don't recall him meeting with Kerry but that doesn't mean he didn't. I kind of tuned out for a little while after the 2004 election because I was depressed.
