2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumEveryone please calm down... I can't believe how many people are freaking out here about
the email story. It's a nothing burger and deserves to be treated as such.
Ordinary people don't care about this story, and the vast majority of people have already made up their mind. Who is really going to vote Trump now, that were thinking of voting for Hillary because of this?
The media and the GOP are being ridiculous, as usual, because they are desperate for a competitive race.

(496 posts)or money, which is what matters now. IMO, the race is over. Send still need to fight to get as much as possible in Congress, but Hillary will be our next President.

(65,227 posts)this either for ratings and to fill air time, or in some cases because they are on the GOP side in the first place.
There are still wishy-washy low information voters who can be persuaded by this to vote against Hillary because they were only voting reluctantly for her in the first place, while others might just decide to stay home.
I doubt it will cost her the presidency, but it could weaken her mandate, and it could hurt Dem efforts to retake the Senate and reduce the GOP majority in the House.
Furthermore, Dem wins in any election need to be huge, because it is too easy to steal a close election.

(68,497 posts)The emails are baked in...and this is a nakedly partisan move...I think Democrats are outraged by Comey's actions and may vote in even greater numbers...

(1,752 posts)about a candidate supposedly "under criminal investigation" while ill informed lefties seem to think theres been some damning evidence found, when in reality the situation is nothing of the sort. As far as I know they havent even determined if HRCs emails are ON the computer, let alone classified information
OK, I think the lines have been drawn by now and few votes will change.... but still we have to admit that we progressives too have absorbed the toxic negavity about our candidate which the RW has been spewing 24/7 for the last gazillion years. The concern is that this is yet another twist on voter suppression - dispiriting us so we stay home because of the mistaken impression that they are both equally bad.

Donald Trump is erratic and undeserving of being anywhere near the most powerful position in the world.

(4,149 posts)Very, very, very people are even listening anymore.
I actually laughed out loud while I was reading something online last night. There was a screaming headline that Hillary could very well lose the election based on this non-story. Really? Seriously?
ANYBODY who writes obvious BULLSHIT like that should be writing for the National Enquirer.
I am certain that virtually NOBODY (aside from true KoolAid drinkers) is listening to this BS, and people recognize it as such.

(7,723 posts)re-opened the investigation. It's basically the national section of USA Today put into the local Indy Star, since they have the same owner. Really irresponsible, but that headline went to a lot of papers.

This too shall pass. The media has the attention span of a fruit fly. They are desperately trying to eat the burger that isn't there.

(5,005 posts)It is done. There is nothing I can do about it. Worrying myself to death won't help. I will simply vote and encourage everyone else to vote. I will work the phones on the final two days of the campaign. Then I will let the chips fall where they may. I hope/pray that people will not be fooled by the Republicans but I can't control that. What I can control is the shows that I watch. I have not watched any of the political coverage since the fallout. I will not watch any of it until election day (unless Trump is hit with something else big which seems unlikely at this point). Until then I am watching all of the recorded shows on my TIVO (behind because of the election) AND the Hallmark Christmas movies. Thank goodness I will be very busy with work next week. That will make the days go by faster.........

Should a sexual predator, a criminal, be President of the United States? is the question everyone must answer on November 8. This should be the story every day! This is the story they are trying to bury.
