Damn folks, don't panic about emails/FBI
This was timed to hit the weekend news cycle and nothing more. Fact or fiction, it makes no difference. The GOP is dying for a decent weekend in about a month.

1. Yeah, I don't think this is a big deal.
Most people have made up their minds by now and many have already voted. I'm not too concerned about this.

2. And it will be dead by Monday.
People will be watching the World Series and getting ready for Halloween and going to parties this weekend. And next week Trump will say another crazy/stupid thing. The media have the attention span of a gerbil.

3. That is all true, and the emails in question aren't even from Hillary, however,
the MSM and the republican hate machine is saying it is all doom and gloom, and that the investigation is being reopened, blah blah blah
https://twitter.com/samsteinhp/status/792067119286542337 The point is, falsehoods and lies can hurt us very badly, unless this is addressed quickly |

5. There have been a lot of clarifications in the past hour
Hopefully the media will get the story straight by dinner time. Its a nothing story and most people probably wont hear about it until this evening.

6. I agree...it's so clearly a partisan move.
There was nothing requiring Comey to update Congress...he chose to do so 11 days before the election.
My bottom line has always been (and has been reinforced by the recent wikileaks) that Hillary has known for years that she was going to run in 2016. She also knew that the repubs would investigate her every sneeze, so she would have done nothing that she considered the least bit suspicious on any level. She has been, in essence, auditioning for this job since 2008. Therefore they are not going to fine anything intentionally criminal. Further, every single government agency had trouble transitioning to the new email technology in the early 2000s. Some still have not done so successfully. If you did an in depth investigation into any of these (I have personal knowledge of the VA and the IRS) you would find far worse in the way communications took place in the same era. |

7. Hope so. The WaPo is gloomily framing the story...
"The FBI will investigate whether additional classified material is contained in emails sent using Hillary Clinton’s private email server while she was sectretary of state, FBI director James Comey informed Congressional leaders Friday.
"The announcement appears to restart the FBI’s probe of Clinton’s server, which previously ended in July with no charges. The explosive announcement, coming less than two weeks before the presidential election, could reshape a campaign in that Clinton, the Democratic nominee, had been leading in public polls." Sorry I can't link to article, am on my phone and on the road... |
