2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumQUICK! What should you do if your right to vote is challenged at the polls?
I know that you are supposed to use your cell phone to take pictures of your challenger... I also know that either the FBI or the DOJ is supposed to have staff on standby in their Civil Rights division... I also think the ACLU or the Hillary Clinton Campaign will have attorneys on stand-by in various places, too.
So is it the FBI or DOJ? And what phone number should we dial? Please feel free to add your 2 cents and 4-1-1 on handling challenges to your right to vote in this thread.
Also, I voted absentee on October 4th or 5th just to avoid the whole challenge at the polls situation.

(6,544 posts)If you experience any problem or confusion while voting report the situation to one of the poll workers or election officials immediately. Do not wait until you have finished voting. If the election officials at the polling place are unable or unwilling to help you, the problem should be reported directly to the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. There are no special forms to use or procedures to follow--just call the Civil Rights Division toll-free at (800) 253-3931, or contact them by mail at:

But that will not happen. I am a urban redneck looking white guy in boots and a truck.
Unfortunately my fellow citizens who are not white cannot be so sure.
As long as we all get out and vote we will save this nation.

(34,135 posts)The election officials are obvious. My BIL has acted as attorney for the local Democratic Party to intercede if there are problems (he may not be doing it this year since he was hired by another party but he would know who to call. My field organizer with the Hillary Clinton Campaign would know who to contact with the campaign.
I'm going to vote during early voting on the first or second day. I'm headed out of town after that and will not be back until after the election.

Please turn to us first and we will call the police if needed (and yeah, I intend to have the BOE on speed dial with 911 as a backup. But I don't expect to need more than the chance to say "Can I get a little assistance here?"
