UnskewedPolls.com rises from the dead! They Distort, You Decide!

Cast your vote in their post-election poll.

http://unskewedpolls.com/ (I'd link you directly to the poll, but you don't want to miss the exciting front page.)

Scenario 1 -- Massive vote fraud
Scenario 2 -- Some vote fraud
Scenario 3 -- Obama legitimately reelected

Oh, there are more questions after you submit your choice of "scenarios." I don't know if it's worth my time or yours to answer.

Should we do our own poll here?

I just didn't know.

Anyhow, he says,

UnSkewedPolls.com is just one web site and one project I did, and depending on your point of view it was proven wrong, it has run its course or it will fade away.

He predicted Romney would win 275 electoral votes. In fact, Romney won 206 electoral votes. How is there any "point of view" in which he was not proven wrong?

When a hack like this is considered a legitimate source of news or analysis, depending on your point of view, a huge swath of the American public has gone down the rabbit hole, through the looking glass, off the cliff, or out of their fucking minds.

who knew by giving some hope to the right he would become famous (for 15 minutes). A week before he said 275 electoral votes, he claimed mitt would get around 350. It was a complete joke but that didn't stop the clowns on the right from quoting this nobody as an oracle. Freeking hilarious.

I thought I'd have to give him credit for apologizing for his comments about Nate Silver being obviously an incompetent poll analyst due to his "effeminate" voice and appearance.

But, he had to go and ruin it with this:

In this article about me and the UnSkewedPolls.com web site, on some web site called “The Daily Banter” whatever that is, I was described this way by the author of the article, Bob Cesca, writing about me and judging me by only one picture of me he saw, because I”ve never personally met Mr. Cesca:

“Unskewed founder Dean Chambers is the Bizarro Nate Silver. Whereas Silver is a mathematical and statistical savant who’s a half man, half slide-rule chimera — a skinny New Yorker who’s devised astonishingly accurate forecasting models for both sports and politics, and who exhaustively explains his work on a daily basis aboard his FiveThirtyEight blog for the New York Times. And then there’s Chambers, a portly Southern amateur who thinks he’s uncovered a widespread polling scam when, in fact, he’s merely stripped out any and all accuracy or calculated methodology and just, you know, made stuff up to confirm his political bias, boost his internet traffic and win the adulation of terrified, flailing conservatives scrambling for electoral life preservers as the Romney-Ryan campaign ship rapidly takes on water.”

http://www.examiner.com/article/regarding-my-comments-about-nate-silver-s-appearance

So you can see how he was forced to say this about someone other than the person who referred to him as portly:

“Nate Silver is a man of very small stature, a thin and effeminate man with a soft-sounding voice that sounds almost exactly like the “Mr. New Castrati” voice used by Rush Limbaugh on his program. In fact, Silver could easily be the poster child for the New Castrati in both image and sound.

He tried to discredit Silver by saying he was thin an effeminate. I guess your worth as a person is dependent on how much you bench?

In his "apology" he says this....

Nate Silver, like most liberal and leftist celebrities and favorites, might be of average intelligence but is surely not the genius he's made out to be.

Does he know that Silver said he would likely vote for Romney or a libertarian candidate???/

here. They have the following categories:

Baptist
Catholic
Christian
Latter Day Saints
Lutheran
Mennonite
Lutheran
Reformed (Jewish only ,I'm guessing)
Other (Adventist, Anglican, Brethren, Friends, Orthodox, Pentecostal, Presbyterian, United Church of Christ, None.)

Most of those should be subcategories of Christian, it seems to me. I guess it makes sense not to bother with indicating that on the map itself, but they could do so in the key. Do we assume plain old Christian is the same as Fundie or Evangelical?

By the way, don't miss seeing the various maps, including the aforementioned, overlaid on the electoral map and various adjusted for proportionately adjusted maps in this DU thread.

It's odd that (un)skewed dude only separates out Catholics from the others under the Christian umbrella. (What would Paul Ryan say?) And it annoys me that he lists Atheist and Agnostic as religions. Here are his categories (for anyone not wanting to take the poll to find out):

Christian
Catholic
Jewish
Hindu
Buddhist
Muslim
Atheist or Agnostic
Other

I was curious about "Reformed" as a denomination -- as they are clustered in Western Michigan, you can pretty much bet that it's not Jewish.

The Protestant Reformed Churches is this weird Calvinist denomination concentrated around Holland, MI. They're mighty conservative: if your spouse is unfaithful or abusive, you're allowed to get a divorce, but you're NEVER allowed to remarry. That would be adultery. Only men are allowed to vote on church matters. You get the picture.

Turns out I know one of the adherents. She's a very pleasant young woman, but I'm pretty sure she voted for Romney.

Edit: Kind of surprised they even showed up on the map, really. It's a pretty minor sect.

grandmother divorced her husband, because he was an abusive drunkard and cheater. She always said she could never remarry because of the church. Funny thing, I'm pretty sure the rule was that you were not supposed to divorce in the first place.

She lived in Maryland all her life, so, I guess it wouldn't be likely she got that idea from some "Reformed" person.

The "old school" doctrine was one marriage per customer (lifetime limit). But I think these days there is some sensitivity and that an annulment might be an option.
