Eighty-Eight Percent of Romney Voters Were White

The GOP candidate’s race-based, monochromatic campaign made him a loser.

In the end, the racial bubble of Mitt Romney's campaign was a little too small. According to exit polls, he won 59 percent of the white vote, just short of his 60 percent target. But even a 60 percent showing with white voters wouldn't have won him the popular vote. That’s because the GOP bubble remained as tight as ever: Only white people voted for Mitt Romney.

Or not quite only. Romney won 48.1 percent of the overall vote. White people who voted for Romney made up 42.5 percent of the overall vote. That works out to 88 percent of Romney voters being white.

Using the same method, we find that 2 percent of Romney's voters were black, 6 percent were Latino, 2 percent were Asian, and 2 percent had some other ethnic classification.

Obama's support was 56 percent white, 24 percent black, 14 percent Latino, 4 percent Asian, and 2 percent other.

while 70% of the electorate was white. .70(.39) = .273 while .94(.13) = .1222. Thus he had more white voters than black.

we -- the Democratic Party -- are the future of this country? This country is changing, demographically as well as in its beliefs. Me personally? I couldn't be more excited about it.

But we need to make sure our new majority coalition turns out for Midterms and other elections before we can establish a real period of dominance.

Vietnam. They convinced a lot people that Dems were weak on defense. Personally, I believe that Obama is as aggressive as he is partly to overcome this. Dems need to shout and repeat that Republicans are the party of intolerance and bigotry until every last one of them rejects it.

Thanks JRLeft and Salon.com.

We're the USA... we're better then that. We weren't going to elect a president for whom only white people voted.

Yes we can (view and listen to this still relevant and inspirational video while we all enjoy this moment in history and show our gratitude and compassion to all living things). Credits to will.i.Am. Scarlett Johansson, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, 22 other artists, and, of course to President Barack Obama.

and her husband, and most of her friends, voted for Obama, 2008 and 2012. I hate for people to assume I would vote for Romney because of my race and age. I hope experience brings good sense--but I can't account for some folks in my age bracket unless they've gone balmy early.
