Why Hillary wore white...

How Hillary Embraced History

Accepting the Democratic nomination for President on Thursday, Hillary Clinton leaned into her status as the first female nominee for President from a major political party.

It was a direct contrast to her 2008 campaign against President Obama, where Clinton largely avoided addressing the legacy of her candidacy — up until the end, when she famously declared there were now “18 million cracks” in the glass ceiling.

During her acceptance speech on Thursday, she faced it head-on, wearing all white in what is likely a nod to Geraldine Ferraro, who wore white when she became the first woman to accept the Vice Presidential nomination of a major party, and the suffragettes, who wore white while fighting for women’s right to vote.

Since when you are her wardrobe monitor. Whatever she wears, says or does is never good enough for some people.

I got an idea - she wore white because she is marrying Americans who are progressive!

I agree what Hillary wears should be her choice. Male or female I wish our society would lighten up about clothing choices. If the POTUS chooses to wear business casual on average workdays, all the better. I prefer comfort to archaic dictates about "acceptable" work clothing.

In another way, it was kinda bridal. I think I wanna marry her!

But seriously... She really managed to get to me tonight.

I just hope her team has everything covered. I don't care what she wears. She looks fine to me.

I just hope that all these choices are the right choices to get her elected in a dumbed down American public, which I have little faith.

in a very well choreographed last night, it was about patriotism. Chesea wore red, the Secretary wore white & Senator Kaine wore a blue suit.

Mrs. Kaine also wore a blue dress, and the kids that came up were in red, and blues, with one young girl wearing a dress with stars on it.

... an American flag made of people is far more important and beautiful than one made simply of cloth. Call it the tapestry of America, but it makes for a more colorful, more enduring representation of patriotism, democracy, and freedom than any lapel pin, banner, bunting, or flag. The strength of America -- the REAL America -- lies not in her symbols but in her citizens.

...And my thought, when I saw her in white was a bit more spiritual—the pope wears white, sikhs often wear white, baptismal garments are white....

She referred more to her religion in this speech, but in a way I didn't mind at all. Especially the quote we've seen on placards about the convention ("do all the good you can to all the people you can in all the ways you can&quot . Nice way to counter the selfish evangelicalism on the other side.

He saw how "dead" the national church was, and began a long personal journey to find more meaning in Christianity, and in doing the work Christ calls his followers to do. Others derisively called him an "enthusiast". But he and a handful of others started really helping the poor in places like Bristol, etc. John Wesley's story is phenomenal.

...over thinking it at all. It's not like this campaign has been subtle about their theme of togetherness and putting differences aside. How better for Hillary to say "I've moved into a position above party loyalties" then to exchange her blue suit for a white one?

It literally punctuates what she said in the speech about working for not just democrats but independents and republicans and even those who don't vote for her.

Of course, if you and I want to really over-think it (why not?), white is, literally *all colors* Shall we expand the symbolism discussion that way? I'm buying.

When Hillary and Warren appeared in matching blue suits, that's all Faux would talk about. Not what they said, but how they looked--mockingly of course. Women in politics have always had to deal with that--news commentators discussing what they wore and how they were groomed instead of focusing on what they said. I'm not saying male candidate's appearance isn't also discussed/mocked, but men, of course, get to wear (and have to wear) that uniform, a suit. Unless it's a bad/strange suit or doesn't have the right lapel pin, what they wore is rarely discussed.

But Hillary just made this all work for her! Donald Trump cannot come out wearing a white suit to symbolize anything! He'd look ridiculous. Hillary, however, can more than get away with this. Here she is wearing something that practically screams "I have risen" and "I am a savior" and Donald Trump can't possibly match it. Not in any suit he wears.

And she looks great in it to boot! She just played "the woman card" masterfully. Like laying down that winning Ace. "You wanna talk about what I wear rather than what I say? Here ya go! Talk and sell me to the voters on every news channel for days."
