They are trying to slowly change message so as to swing some liberals over to modern conservativism.
If they tried to make a swift transformation, many of the viewers would sense shock and leave.
It's the old fallacy of slowly heating a pot with a frog in it. Sooner or later, most will jump anyway.

(43,982 posts)Daytime has always swung a bit to the right. That's the 'fair and balanced' part of the day. Remember 'Imus in the Morning' from way back when? He was the old time version of Morning Joe?
I hear some folks claiming Rachel is 'rightwing' but that seems to be based on misunderstanding of what interviewer are supposed to do. If she detects bullshit, she asks hard questions whether you are Randy Paul or Jeff Weaver.
I thought her weirdness over the Clinton speech was very very odd. But I don't think that means much in the pic picture of things.
Note that no one else on the panel agreed w her (other than Nicole Wallace who I beleive was disingenuous in her comments)
Hayes and O'Donnell are as anti-right wing as they come. o,Donnell has been relentlessly pounding away at Trump's bullshit since the day he announced. Joy Reed is amazing!
Matthews can get giddy and wild because he's a political junkie and gets obsessed with the nuts and bolts of the DC game, but at heart is a solid Dem. I'm impressed that he's let go of a lot of negativity.
Brian Williams, I've always thought of him as a no nothing bubble headed himbo. I did like it better when Rachel and Matthews anchored election coverage. Williams adds absolutely nothing.
Now all that being said, they have way too many paid GOP commentators now.
I do like hearing from Michael Steele and Steve Schmidt because both of them have what I call a 'Truth Mode'. Sure they will do some pro-Republican spinning, but they both will drop out of 'spin mode' and be honest about what's going on and rightly praise Democrats and criticize Republican bullshit.
I see no need for them to have that Hugh Hewitt operative nor that unrepentant bush-bot Nicolle Wallace. This seems to be a move to counteract bullshit charges of 'bias'. To me it is totally ill advised. Unlike Steele and Schmidt they contribute nothing.

(43,982 posts)By interviewing The Buster types.
Was lots of criticism here of the choice to interview those three right after Bernie's endorsement speech.
To me it is clear producers wanted to pick three Sanders delegates to interview first night of the convention that they could reinterview at the end to show what MSNBC believes will be their transformation from busters on day 1 to 'I,m voting for HRC' on day 4.
Is it gonna work out the way they think? Dunno but I am pretty sure that is the idea in their head.
Similar interview w Illinois Bernie delegate later in convention. However once reporter realized she hadn't been reached and converted by speeches, interview was quickly ended.
