2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumLast night I decided who I was voting for...
I was checking out of the grocery store (ugh!) today, and the cashier was telling me she was glad her shift was over she was tired. She's stayed up late last night watching the convention. She said she thought the Republicans was awful & that she and her husband were enjoying ours, but they weren't sure who they were voting for--or if they were voting. Neither liked Trump.
She said one speaker made up her mind for her.
...Joe Biden. After she and her husband watched him they decided Hillary was their candidate.
I think he's going to be a huge asset to Hillary. She should have him out there as much as possible.

(12,408 posts)Joe has many fine qualities. But he is not always the most, shall we say, diplomatic. His mouth sometimes gets ahead of his brain, which may not be the best quality for a SOS!

(7,117 posts)He and HRC were being considered for VP and SOS. Obama finally chose JB for VP because having HRC as VP would mean the Big Dawg would be 2nd Spouse, and it wouldn't be advisable to have a former POTUS in that position. At least that's what some talking head said on TV this week.
Yeah, thesquanderer, you may have a point there. Among Uncle Joe's many attributes, self-editing isn't one of them.

(12,046 posts)He resonates with working class whites in a way Hillary or even Obama do not. I was watching him last night and he really has a completely different communicating style than a lot of the democratic speakers. For one thing he spends a much larger percentage of time looking directly into the camera and his mannerisms and his expressions I think give the impression that he's leveling with people or telling something to them straight. I'm not saying he's a better communicator than Obama obviously, but he does appeal to a certain subset of the population. Tim Kaine appeals to middle class folks, but Biden is bread and butter. Uneducated people do not seem to get the feeling that Biden is talking down to them the way they do with some democrats that we around here love for their soaring rhetoric and sophisticated policy descriptions. If he can help Hillary peal off just a few of those white male working class voters then the election won't be close.

(3,111 posts)And in this I'm including Bloomberg, Kaine (well, kind of a slow burn, like Father Knows Best, but I did enjoy his "Believe me" bit, and then the finale with President Obama.
Anyone in their right mind would have to vote for Hillary after that line-up.
Are Americans in their right mind?

(30,058 posts)To hear them on talk shows and not saying off the wall remarks. Trump has to be the worse candidate in my lifetime and it includes George W Bush. I have enjoyed the DNC convention, love the speakers and they keep on coming. Hillary will reward us for our hard work, I am excited.

(7,395 posts)Tim Kaine will help greatly in Florida, Nevada, New Mexico, and even force the Repukes to do work to try to hang onto Texas and Arizona.
Hillary may not win Texas or Arizona, but Donnie boy will be sweating his orange face off.
