STOP YELLING OVER ELIJAH CUMMINGS AND SHOW SOME GODDAMNED RESPECT (Wonkette)

By Rebecca Schoenkopf - July 25

Elijah Cummings! Wonkette’s legislative badass of the year! THAT Elijah Cummings! A fuckin’ HERO!

I like Bernie. Every Wonker does, it is the law. But some of his delegates are being horrifying, and if you want to talk about “privilege” (which, face it, I usually don’t!) then the white children drowning out the black lady congressman and the black congressman need to take a look in the fucking mirror.

It’s not funny, it’s not cute, and if YOUR democracy “looks like” this, go be a fucking Trumpkin and you can be the anti-democratic authoritarian you so clearly wish to be while shouting down your fucking betters. You know you want to, you fucking little pricks.

Yeah, when he was young, HE never disrespected his allies, so he was young, he occupied buildings, he wasn't a disrespectful racist, who, per the videos were not so very young at all.

There is no way to excuse these outbursts, this belongs on the other side of the aisle, where David Duke and his values and manners are celebrated, not at the Democratic Convention or a Democratic site.

You're taking a man being honorable and twisting it to excuse the inexcusable, that is reprehensible as is the behavior it seeks to defend.

For future reference it would help to have something to criticize and to have a leg to stand on before you attempt to criticize someone when you have have been properly criticized for things that have been said which have no defense. It's why the ad hominem is a fallacy, and the go to of those who cannot produce a legitimate counter argument.

Slavery, where human beings are treated as property and bought and sold and have no basic freedoms and no wages are paid still happens. It's not codified, it's against the law, but it's still going on. Can we stop with mislabeling things for dramatic effect in ways that diminishes the actual meaning of the words? Even if you honestly did not know that slavery and human trafficking are major issues in 2016 both abroad and here at home, pretending that wage earners and "immigrants labor" is equivalent to slavery demonstrates a basic lack of understanding of what exactly slavery is and was.

(Video here.) “NO TPP,” they shouted, over and over, and besides wishing I knew when TPP became the litmus test for progressives, I’d also like to know why those Sanders delegates think they know more about “fair” trade than THE MAN WHO WAS TALKING ABOUT HIS PARENTS BEING SHARECROPPERS, WHILE HE WAS TALKING ABOUT IT.

I like Bernie. Every Wonker does, it is the law. Black Lives Matter and ‘Bernie or Bust’ Clash Outside the DNC

A group of Sanders supporters attempted to ease tensions with “we are in this together” chants that clashed with “hell no DNC we won’t vote for Hillary” screams.

“This is why we can’t do anything” a Sanders supporter said of BLM’s attempts to keep the two protests separate.

A BLM activist replied that he had joined the Bernie or Bust movement before, but that their “this is what democracy looks like” motto did not represent his demands as a black man. “I’ve been shot in the street. You wanna talk about that?” he asked the Berner.

Green party candidate, Dr. Jill Stein showed up shortly after, but, even after a megaphone was handed to her by protesters, her words were nearly inaudible to anyone more than 10 feet away from her. Most of the people there did not even know who the woman swarmed by a crowd of cameras was.

The protest rapidly deescalated once the BLM and Bernie or Bust crowds separated for good. Those angry at the DNC were loud, but even at the protest’s peak, the chaos spoke louder than their message itself.

The relative inconsequence of the protests became even clearer as I left the area in an Uber: I was greeted by the driver’s shushing — “I gotta listen to Bill Clinton’s speech!”
