Connect the dots: Hillary Clinton and Elizabeth Warren will both be in central Florida this weekend

In the lead up to a running mate rollout thats been played close to the vest, the pieces can be put together in just about any way one might like. But heres what we do know: Hillary Clinton is holding an event this Friday afternoon at the Tampa Fairgrounds in Florida. Elizabeth Warren has an already-scheduled speech the next morning at the National Council of La Raza in Orlando, about ninety minutes away. If you like, the dots connect in an unmistakably intriguing way.
In the days since Hillary Clintons Friday event in Tampa hit the schedule, even as Politico was reporting that insiders were pointing to a running mate rollout in Florida, questions began to fly as to why she might be using the Sunshine State for the rollout. Perhaps it was because she was choosing someone like Julian Castro or Tom Perez, or a fluent Spanish speaker like Tim Kaine, who might play well with the Hispanic voters in the state. Or maybe she chose Florida simply because its such a key swing state and she hadnt held a major public event there for awhile.
But now that we know Elizabeth Warren was already scheduled to be in Florida on Saturday, it brings forth another possible explanation entirely. If Hillary Clinton is going with Warren as her running mate, it could be that shes simply traveling to the swing state that Warren is already going to be in at the time.
Warren also called Joe Kennedy and asked him to come speak at the Democratic National Convention. If Warren becomes the running mate, its expected that Kennedy would be the leading contender to take over her Senate seat in what would be a near-immediate special election. And now shes suddenly making an effort to raise his profile.............................

(47,239 posts)and Kaine are just diversions, so she can spring a huge surprise with Warren. It would be very creative and inspiring, garnering a ton of great publicity.

(13,570 posts)Not ready, no gender balance, needed in the Senate, and brings no geography or new demographics. She would be replaced with a Repuke. Not gonna happen and should not happen.
PatSeg
(47,239 posts)but this election season has been unlike any I've seen, so I'm expecting the unexpected. And god, please don't let it be Vilsack! If it can't be Warren, Xavier Becerra would be a great choice, a real groundbreaking ticket.
Meanwhile, I can still dream of Warren.

(2,510 posts)--- until it was the WHITE MALES who were in danger of being left off the ticket!
Warren would solidify support among the Sanders faction, and may well bump up the vote of millennial women who aren't overly fond of Hillary.
I want to see Trump get his ass kicked royally BY TWO WOMEN! That's probably the worst thing he can imagine happening to himself! What a total humiliation that would be for him!
Anyway, the senate seat "loss" in Massachusetts would only be temporary, as the seat has to be filled by special election. If Joe Kennedy III is to run for it, I think we can win the special election in Massachusetts, for pete's sake.
"Gender Balance" Warren would blow away the GOP and having two strong women will be the best way to go !!!!!

(1,580 posts)Since forever, we have not had gender balance, its been 2 males. So 2 females on the ticket and we need gender balance.

(15,220 posts)Gender balance, my ass.
What in the hell would be wrong with two strong, intelligent, savvy, independent women on the ticket? They each in their own right scare the hell out of the Republicans, and together, they actually just might make them shit their pants.
PatSeg
(47,239 posts)What kind of "Gender balance" have we had for the last 250 years? There is plenty of male influence throughout the government, the country can handle two women in the White House. It is only the republican fringe base that couldn't handle it and they aren't voting Democratic anyway.
We've already seen that men don't tend to get under Trump's skin, but strong women really do. It would be absolutely delicious to watch and he sure has it coming.

I'd rather have her in the Senate, but arguing that she shouldn't be the choice because she's from MA is absurd.

(2,792 posts)Bill's judgment these days has been very questionable.

(47,239 posts)and Hillary really got pissed at Bill when he tried to intervene. There was something about him editing one of her speeches and she was not a happy camper.

(47,239 posts)I believe they are playing with the media, which give Hillary more exposure and adds to the anticipation.
Koinos
(2,792 posts)Why did Bill go public with his preference?
Why did Bernie replace Warren in the keynote speaking spot? Remember that Bernie said that Hillary should choose Warren.
Why did Warren ask Joe Kennedy III to introduce her (perhaps) at the convention? Joe Kennedy has already stated that if Warren is the VP pick, he would run for her senate seat.
I don't think Hillary is still on the fence. I believe she has already made up her mind. Pence has a lot to do with her choice.
It doesn't seem to me that all this melodrama points to Kaine. But I am probably wrong.
And Hillary had one hell of a good time campaigning with Warren. I don't think I ever saw Hillary so charged up as she was at that joint appearance.
But the big surprise could even be Biden.
PatSeg
(47,239 posts)That is quite impressive.
You are right, Hillary was so energized when she was on stage with Warren. I would have never thought the two would be a good fit, but fed off of each other beautifully.
I'm also thinking that Hillary wants to be a historical figure as the first woman president and the first female administration would be even more exciting.
As for Joe, I think he has other plans. Eight years as VP is more than enough.

All very interesting speculation. But only speculation, of course.
PatSeg
(47,239 posts)I really had forgotten about Sherrod Brown, maybe because so few people have mentioned him. He is someone I've liked for a really long time, but I doubt he can generate the excitement that I think the campaign is going for.
I am quite sure they are playing games with us and the media. There are no accidents in Hillary world.
Koinos
(2,792 posts)And every pundit thinks he or she has it figured out. Lots of clues, and many of them are "head fakes."
Giordano keeps saying that Biden is the one to watch for the "tell." Biden may do or say something that sends a signal to those who know how to interpret it.
I have to say, Democrats are a whole lot more professional and fun to follow than Republicans. They work together as a team, even when they choose a VP.
By the way, Joseph Kennedy III is thirty-six years old and eligible to be VP as well. But let's not go there.
Democrats are much better at all this. They just need to improve their messaging. They tend to make everything too complicated and nuanced for the average voter.
That brings us back to Elizabeth Warren. She can explain complex economics in a way that anyone can understand AND actually enjoy it. She would be a great "explainer". Her teaching skills are exceptional. Bill Clinton has "the gift", but best to keep him in the background this time around.

(3,226 posts)Elizabeth is the best pick, just watch how all of the other choices for VP did when they campaigned with Hillary, only Elizabeth fired up the crowd, Hillary even felt more comfortable on stage with Elizabeth. Elizabeth is the only person to to have been able to throw Trump off his game. Elizabeth will be the attack dog and Hillary will stay above the fray sticking to the high road.

(1,089 posts)but IMO if it's Warren the election will be such an ass-kicking up and down the ticket that the temporary loss of her seat in MA for at-most 160 days would be more than counterbalanced with taking back the senate and perhaps even the house along with a bunch of state-level seats.
In other words, naming Warren could possibly do more good 'for' the senate than she would do in it.

(842 posts)After seeing his TED Talk on the many facets of global security, I though he would be an excellent choice. Hillary wants a VP capable of leading the country through a crisis if she could not. In his video, he uses the phrase "build bridges, not walls" which is an expression Hillary often uses as well. Check out this video (and read his bio). He has more to offer than you think.
He is from Florida and speaks BOTH Spanish and French

(364 posts)She is already considered a Hawk and she has tons of foreign policy experience. She has repeatedly said this person should be able to step up to be president - the General has that capacity? She needs a strong energizing domestic policy expert - Warren or Baccerra would be best option imho.

(37,428 posts)Trump and Pence are going to be generating daily gaffes, but in a campaign against two women those gaffes are going to be more immediately and painfully obvious.

I'd also be happy with Gavin Newsom or Sherrod Brown. But Warren would bring a lot of Bernie supporters back. Picking her would also keep the TPP off the table (unless it gets rammed through in the lame duck session).
