Related: About this forumCampaign cash of Sanders growing, despite elimination
https://whipboard.co/2016/06/campaign-cash-sanders-growing-despite-mathematical-elimination/In fact, according to recent Federal Election Commission data, the Sanders campaign raised an additional $17 million throughout June, despite being mathematically eliminated. Of the over $229 million Sanders has now raised in total, 99.98 percent has come from donations, which is greater than what presidential candidates Donald Trump, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Ohio Governor John Kasich raised.
Sanders has no debt that he needs to settle, and has spent approximately $219.9 million with a surplus of $9 million remaining, which he will most likely spend before he drops out of the campaign.

(2,353 posts)In less than one month, we are going to take our political revolution into the halls of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia where we will fight to place a $15 minimum wage, opposition to the TPP, and a ban on fracking directly into the Democratic Party platform.
Our campaign has earned the right to send almost 1,900 delegates to vote on these important issues, but many of them are working folks and the costs of attending the convention are too high. So I want to help them get there, because this campaign isnt about Bernie Sanders, its about all of us.
We have another FEC fundraising deadline tonight, the last one before the convention. And when we report our numbers, we can send a powerful message to the political establishment that we intend to get every last one of our delegates to Philadelphia to fight for the values we share.
Can I count on you to make another contribution to our campaign today? This one will go directly towards ensuring we can get all of our delegates to Philadelphia for the convention next month.
Our power comes from a simple, timeless truth: that when people stand together, there is nothing we cannot accomplish. And I know that if we continue to fight to get all of our sisters and brothers to Philadelphia next month, we are going to transform the Democratic Party.
In solidarity,
Bernie Sanders

(6,444 posts)so stop repeating that 81% blah blah blah. (oooopps your're not going to like the blahhh blahh blah am sure!) The candidate for that was not chosen. We want Obamacare to be built on.. You are acting like you don't get this point, which was hashed during the whole primaries and was an important part. Obamacare was hard fought and a great accomplishment. Needs to be tweaked and built on. Stop the nagging about single payer. It did a showing in the primaries and did not win!! Many of us did not think it'd be a great idea with the congress we have. Plus there are different ways to have Universal Health care.
Ah rehashing the whole she-bang! You probably already know all the arguments but you're really enamored of your one little tidbit and think that ought to be the winning argument.
eridani
110. If you don't favor single payer, you are out of step with 81% of Democrats
I consider you fighting over this being stubborn when millions more chose and voted for the candidate that would build on Obamacare. How many and varied ways ought I or we say this. The nominee was voted and chosen because of her platform and that includes building on Obamacare.
Again HRC won, her platform includes building on Obama Care. SHE won for many reasons and building on Obamacare was one of them.!!
If we favor building on Obamacare we are in step with the Majority that chose the winning nominee HRC!
eridani
110. If you don't favor single payer, you are out of step with 81% of Democrats
If you don't favor building on Obamacare you're out of step with the majority of Democratic Primary voters!
and you're choosing to rehash the losing nominee's losing idea, which lost in part because of it!

The primaries was a lot to do with this topic. Part of that was also recognizing that Congress obstructed Obamacare the whole way. It seems like people want to forget about that and about CONGRESS!
eridani
(51,907 posts)Yes, Congress would fight single payer. So let's just stop advocating for policies we want? (Though I think that state by state is the best approach.) Let's just keep executing 22,000 people a year in the name of insurance companies. Yes, Obamacare cut that number in half, but mass murder is still mass murder.
Her Sister
(6,444 posts)which meant she was vetted and vetted throughout the years and even through smears. I voted for the candidate who cares about the many things I care about. I voted for the candidate that can be a team player and a team leader. I voted for the candidate that could explain her goals and platform and all the details and heck she probably could explain all the other candidates platforms better than them if she wanted to. I voted for the candidate who showed she was aware of and understood what it took to get Obamacare passed! I voted for the candidate who will help down the ballot candidate get elected because that's what's really needed as per out constitution. I made an informed decision and voted for HRC and she is the nominee.
In any case we gotta stop meeting like this because we are close to rehashing the primaries and we got a nominee and she's got her platform and so forth and so on.
And you are starting to use words like Bullshit and that's not a convincing argument. Bye. Have a good Holiday weekend!
117. Bullshit. Voters vote more on name recognition than on policy
Yes, Congress would fight single payer. So let's just stop advocating for policies we want? (Though I think that state by state is the best approach.) (51,907 posts)Nice to hear that 22,000 dead people a year is fine by you. Not to mention the ones in US imperial wars (not that Sanders could do much about that.) Interestingly enough, he is living his message...money from the people to whom he is beholden to. Not huge donations from Corporations (Oligarchy) to be beholden to. The social issues are rather minor, but this one Is Not Minor. We, The People want our equal say. That's why many quit in disgust or dispair or boredom over the past decades. Berne brought many of them out. He listens and marches with union members and other Blue Collar values. You'll not find him talking to Management or the Boardrooms.

(5,648 posts)"...no Neoliberal/Third Wayers running the New Democratic Party" after 2018 and 2020, I think you are setting yourself for big disappointment.
I don't appreciate your use of the term, "Neoliberal/Third Wayers", it is obvious that you meant it in a derogatory manner, but no one could misunderstand to whom you are referring. Hillary Clinton and the Democrats who support her will indeed be running the the Democratic Party until at least 2020 and I am reasonably sure until 2024. Even if she is displaced in 2020 it will be by a Republican, not someone out of the Sanders mold.
libdem4life
(13,877 posts)Convenient pragmatism. If you can't beat them, join them.
And as for disappointments, nothing new about that.
There is a global push against top down government...Brexit, and other European countries are experiencing their issues, as well. Trump, sorry to say, is how the Republicans are experiencing their disdain.
So, "The Sander's Mold" as you put it, is bottom up democracy...and that's not anything radical. As to HRC...time will tell. And I'm real tired of "No, we Can't."
"This love leaps from the pages of SEC filings, which show Clinton raising a startling sum of cash from the financial sector.
While Trump represents an angry and largely incoherent rebuke of the establishment and Sanders embodies an inspiring alternative to stale corporate liberalism which has, as Doug Henwood has written, shown itself to be the enemy of "even mild social democracy" Clinton represents more politics and economics as usual.
And she is being rewarded for her commitment to the status quo.
Ultimately, though, as long as Sanders is defeated, business will, for the most part, be satisfied.
Whichever party wins office," concludes Corey Robin, "donors can expect that their material interests will be fulfilled. Not because of bribery, simple quid-pro-quos, or access, or influence, but simply because both parties are so ideologically amenable to meeting the needs and interests of wealthy donors."
http://www.commondreams.org/views/2016/06/30/wary-trump-business-leaders-are-flocking-clinton-style-neoliberalism
Call it what you will...I call it Top Down Government...just short of Oligarchy. Neoliberalism.
CajunBlazer
(5,648 posts)... with or without your help. And the moderate wing (my preferred term) of the Democratic Party is going to be running things for the next 8 years. I like that that way; to me it is those on the far left and far right who are most responsible for the extreme partisan divide which has paralyzed our government for years. It is time for the reasonable moderates in both parties to find ways to compromise on issues and get back to effective government. There are far more moderates in this country than those on the far right and the far left combined, though those on the extremes yell the loudest, so there is no reason why it can't happen

(6,444 posts)Summary
I am a junior at the University of Maryland College Park focused on Economics with a minor in General Business, planning to pursue my dreams of being a Corporate Lawyer and fostering a relationship between these two fields.
Scholarship, Leadership, and Service are three characteristics that I find very important to succeed.
Scholarship to me means academic excellence, which I take full advantage of by attending the 19th best public university in the United States and being both a student of the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences and of the Robert H. Smith School of Business.
Leadership entails confidence, integrity, and teamwork, which I demonstrate as I tutor students from K-12 at Kumon Math and Reading, is a wedding planner for Seven Ivory Brides, and is also involved on campus as Association of Indias Developments Vice President. Having worked with a myriad of different people, I know first-hand that with success comes hard work and determination.
Lastly, theres service. I am a recipient of the Congressman Chris Van Hollen Public Service Award for dedicating over 1000 hours of her time towards her community, and was invited to be a part of the Co-Ed Service Fraternity Alpha Phi Omega. I hope to open my own law firm in the future and create my own NGO.

(6,444 posts)Unlike traditional propaganda techniques designed to engage emotional support, disinformation is designed to manipulate the audience at the rational level by either discrediting conflicting information or supporting false conclusions. A common disinformation tactic is to mix some truth and observation with false conclusions and lies, or to reveal part of the truth while presenting it as the whole (a limited hangout).
Another technique of concealing facts, or censorship, is also used if the group can affect such control. When channels of information cannot be completely closed, they can be rendered useless by filling them with disinformation, effectively lowering their signal-to-noise ratio and discrediting the opposition by association with many easily disproved false

Campaign cash of Sanders growing, despite elimination [View all]
https://whipboard.co/2016/06/campaign-cash-sanders-growing-despite-mathematical-elimination/
Despite Hillary Clinton winning the outright nomination on June 7, Senator Bernie Sanders (D-VT) refuses to back down. According to CNN, Sanders pledges to fight on to the convention. Sanders supporters have also made it clear that they will continue to give money to his campaign.
In fact, according to recent Federal Election Commission data, the Sanders campaign raised an additional $17 million throughout June, despite being mathematically eliminated.

Campaign cash of Sanders growing, despite elimination
Editors Note: A previous version of this story incorrectly reported May fundraising as June.
Despite Hillary Clinton winning the nomination on June 7, Senator Bernie Sanders (D-VT) refuses to back down. According to CNN, Sanders pledges to fight on to the convention. Sanders supporters have also made it clear that they will continue to give money to his campaign and the campaign continues to ask for it.
The Sanders campaign raised nearly $46 million in March, but only $16.4 million in May.
Of the over $229 million Sanders has now raised in total, 99.98 percent has come from donations, which is greater than what presidential candidates Donald Trump, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Ohio Governor John Kasich raised.
As of May 31, Sanders had no debt that he needs to settle, and has spent approximately $219.9 million with a surplus of $9 million remaining, which he may spend before he drops out of the campaign.
