Just a reminder: It's a long time until a nominee is chosen.

From my usually apolitical image blog, www.philly-bob.net: [br]

"Getting annoyed by Clinton supporters' online demands that Bernie Sanders drop out of presidential race before July 25 beginning of convention. Before even California has voted! The Sanders movement represents an exciting new development in American political consciousness -- ohmigod, Democratic Socialism! -- and the establishment Democratic Party shuts that movement out at its own risk. Especially since some polls show Sanders beating Trump while Clinton loses to Trump. I want Sanders to have influence over Democratic Platform and the future of the Democratic Party. I think he's earned it.

79. You're talking about 2 different things.

Some argue that the race was essentially over by Super Tuesday (others say March 15th). In other words, it was clear at that point that Clinton would end up with more pledged delegates (demographic and mathematical realities strongly indicated so).

What folks are now suggesting is that Clinton will be considered (in the media and elsewhere) to be the "presumptive nominee" by the end of the primaries (and before the convention).

That's not a date change. It's 2 different things.

both for the Super and the Pledged delegates, the Convention is when they'll be formerly recorded but they count right now. I have seen the BSers fail to grasp this simple concept since the first few primaries. So if you are a BSer I apologize giving you an explanation that won't make any sense to you. "Feel the Berne!"

have spoken loud and clear. The convention will not disregard the voters and hand the nomination to an Independent that shows nothing but contempt for the Party. Play all the mind games on yourself that you wish but, this here nomination is over.

This has gone on long enough. Once the voting is done I have no interest in pretending everyone doesn't already know the outcome.

My opinion is that Donald Trump represents an unprecedented threat to this country, and I have no interest in providing a platform for people to act like a Trump presidency isn't such a big deal. I have permitted it during primary season because many people seem determined to pretend we live in a fantasyland where Republicans don't exist -- but once the primary is over reality sets in and we can no longer afford to ignore our Republican opponent.

22. Voting is not over till the Convention

At the convention is time that the delegates and Super Delegates vote. In order for a candidate to get the nomination they must have a majority of delegates voting for them. That is why we have pledged delegates that are pledged meaning they have to vote for the candidate at the convention in the first round. No one knows for sure how the SD are going to vote. So if you are saying that Clinton is going to be presumptive nominee after CA votes then you are clueless about how party nomination is done. Unless you actually think she is going to get close to 80% of the CA delegates.

"a candidate becomes the presumptive nominee of his or her party when his or her "last serious challenger drops out or when he or she "mathematically clinches—whichever comes first. A candidate mathematically clinches a nomination by securing a simple majority (i.e., more than 50 percent) of delegates through the primaries and caucuses prior to the convention"

32. "When the voting is over the primary is over on DU. "

Yea and your point. He said when voting is over. You claim that is in 9 days. Voting is not over till a Candidate has a majority of delegates. Hillary is not going to get 80% of the delegates that are left. CA is not some early state Red State that media can lie and paint Sanders as a racist so African American votes go to Hillary. So if she does not get the majority of votes or Sanders suspends his campaign then the DNC convention is where the voting is over. Just because she is assured the nomination does not mean she automatically gets to bypass the rules and gets it handed to her. She still needs the VOTES of a majority of delegates. Saying anything else you are just wrong. Now you could say that she is going to get the nomination at the convention, but to say otherwise is just being dishonest unless you know that she is going to rig election and get <80% of the pledged delegates in CA.

I think it was pretty clear to all that when voting ends, it's over. If you want to take that to mean the convention, I suppose there's a .000001% chance he meant that, but I think even the staunchest Bernie supporters know what Skinner meant, just like they know in their hearts that their candidate lost any chance at the nomination months ago. We're all just going through the stages of your feelings at this point.

62. Skinner will have to deal with an empty DU if they "win" and a purge happens

The rah rahs will stop posting because their mission will be over. I'm looking forward to it actually- there's nothing more satisfying than watching natural law in action when someone is trying to fight it.

9. I've already shifted into General Election mode.

Looks like I'll be supporting Hillary Clinton in that election. If it were Bernie Sanders, then I'd be supporting him for November.

What influence the losing primary candidate will have remains to be seen. I can't predict that, really.

Sanders lost the race the moment Clinton won Ohio.

13. and even longer until the Nov. election!

After a year of electioneering, I am pooped. I nominate my cat! She is peaceful, sleeps a lot, likes everyone, hisses at dogs, nudges me gently when it is time for dinner, perches on the window sill to watch bugs on the screen, greets me when I come home. Vote Gemma!

Thank you for your post. Appreciate your comments re new developments.

This will be over well before the convention.

39. Seriously I don't think they do

I mean I pretty much know there is very little chance in Sanders getting enough in CA to swing this his way. But there is a chance. 65% is not impossible, just unlikely. But it seems a majority of Clinton fans either have no clue about how DNC picks nomination or are just lying on here. Either one is rather sad. Posting arguing about something they have zero information on. Low information to a new level.

48. You seem to not recognize actual reality.

If California polled 20 points up for Clinton would you stop campaigning with 10 days left or would you work to earn more votes?

Don't answer that, we both know.

It is the same with super delegates. Bernie has moved 60 points in the polls. He still has time to move up in the super delegate polls. That's what you fools are so damned afraid of.

He will not quit. Neither will we.

83. What are superdelegate polls?

Superdelegates are just party insiders who express support for a candidate (often early in the campaign) but ultimately support the person who ends up with the most pledged delegates. That person will be Clinton.

49. So you think she is going to win 80% in CA?

Because that is only way. Or are you in Sanders camp and know he is dropping out? Because to be the presumptive nominee before the convention you need all your major contenders to drop out or a simple majority of pledge delegates. Otherwise you are posting something that makes you look low information about how primaries work.

That will happen in Jersey before California ...she need less than 80.

47. They commit before they vote to the candidate with the most delegates

Now, Bernie can hang in until the convention I suppose...but he loses all his platform goodies and loses on the first ballot. He is then likely escorted out by security.

If they tried to do that with Bernie still in the race I think it would be pandemonium. It appears they think so as well.
