Bernie Sanders Warns Hillary Clinton on Running Mate Pick
by JORDAN FRASIER
SHARE

Senator Bernie Sanders doubled down on his warning to democratic rival Hillary Clinton that her pick for running mate will be critical to winning over his supporters going into the general election during an interview to air Sunday on "Meet the Press."....

The Vermont senator was adamant that Clinton pick a hardline progressive for vice president if she successfully secures the Democratic nomination for president. This could help her appeal to the supporters who have flocked to Sanders' campaign during the primary.

Get the progressives out of the party--have them sit down and shut up or leave.

But don't forget to vote for Hillary or you may get the Anti-Christ elected.

Just take us out of mothballs as needed and then put away again.

Believe me--the Democrats worst nightmare will be an exodus of progressives. And frankly, it's our party too. Why should we sit down and shut up or just...get out of the way.

My biggest concern with that though. Hillary won't pick someone with the potential to be more popular than her. Sadly I think that would rule out Elizabeth Warren.

While I think she'd be the perfect running mate in the eyes of many. I doubt Hillary is one of them.

"That means having a candidate who can excite working families, excite young people, bring them into the political process, create a large voter turnout," Sanders told Chuck Todd.

The Vermont senator was adamant that Clinton pick a hardline progressive for vice president if she successfully secures the Democratic nomination for president. This could help her appeal to the supporters who have flocked to Sanders' campaign during the primary.

Asked whether Virginia senator Tim Kaine, who's rumored to be on Clinton's short list, is the kind of running mate he's recommending, Sanders said, "I really like him very much," but declined any further speculation.

If she follows the Third Way pattern of the last 30 years, she will choose a southerner who is tough on crime, opposes abortion, wants to execute more criminals, etc. My guess is she feels she has moved as far left as she needs to, and is looking to bolster her numbers among conservative Democrats, who may be feeling left out by all the attention lavished on Sanders and Warren and progressive issues, the Black Lives Matter thing, etc. Conventional wisdom says there aren't many progressives, at least nt nearly as many votes there as among conservative white Democrats.

But without Bernie she will be viewed as a center right politician and possible lose the left. That can be a huge problem for her in the general election. Bernie Sanders has name recognition and a huge following. He will represent the left wing of the democratic party perfectly. Hillary represents the center right interests already.

Compared to Trump, Clinton is very far left, or at least seen as being very far left. That's like saying, compared to the south pole, anyplace else is warm. The pattern of our party over the last thirty years suggests she will be under pressure to take the progressive vote as a given, and find some way to appeal to Reagan Democrats. We'll see what happens.
