Related: About this forumWhere's Bernie? Why is he silent?
The Nevada thing is exploding in the news, but Bernie's response is silence. I'm sorry, but that's not a response at all.
So, where is Bernie today? What does he think of all this, the disruption at the NV state convention, the vile name-calling of Barbara Boxer, the threats made after the convention.
We're waiting, Bernie. What do you have to say about this?

(146,262 posts)They have audio of it. That's an official from the Sanders campaign saying that.
Let's hear from Bernie. I want to hear what he has to say about this. Where is he today, anyhow? Where was he on Sunday? Has he dropped out of sight?
C'mon, Bernie. Say something. Explain it to us.

(2,872 posts)Myself too. How easy would it be to pay off a handful of 4channers to stir shit for no reason, and not have it tied back to you, AND get to smear your opponent all in one night? This reeks of setup.
ETA: I believe it's a setup to give reason to bar Bernie supporters from Philadelphia, to bolster Clinton's image as "tough", and paint all Bernie supporters as domestic terrorists in one fell Thatcher-esque swoop.
MineralMan
(146,262 posts)I'd like to see him claim that those who are doing those things are not his supporters. Are you including the delegate that called Barbara Boxer a "bitch" in that group? Really?
Let's hear it from Bernie. You're not Bernie.

(135,425 posts)They have no morals. They wouldn't be "loyal." That's the first hole in your argument.
The second hole is "How did they manage to bypass security to get in the hall?"
The simplest answer is the best one. The people in that hall were delegates. They were the ones stirring the shit--people vetted by the Sanders campaign, placed on a list by the Sanders campaign, to represent the Sanders campaign.
"It's a setup!" is the new excuse? And the "Thatcher" theme? AGAIN? Where is that sad, out-of-touch marching order coming from?
There's video. It ain't a big secret. Your crew behaved disgracefully.

(28,323 posts)Because the fact that his official incited this behavior that is now a documented fact. How long can you willfully ignore reality? When SBS falls in behind HRC and starts working for her election (most likely on or just after June 7) will you invent or buy into a wild conspiracy theory that explains that uncomfortable reality away too?
I'm going to make some predictions here about the conspiracy theories we will see when that happens.
a. Bernie was THREATENED! The Clinton "machine" got to him and he had to go along or share box space with Vince Foster!111!!
b. Bernie has SUPER-SECRET inside info about the FBI review and he's just biding time and uniting Dems because ONLY HE KNOWS that she's totally going to jail in September and he'll be the president!
c. Wall-Street oppressors have somehow FORCED him to pretend to support her because . . . I dunno. You guys will have to fill in the details on that one.

He was in Puerto Rico yesterday. It didn't look like it was too productive an exercise.
His campaign has issued a truculent "statement" that is typical of other responses he has made. It's never his fault, always "the establishment" to blame, etc. Tiresome.

He knows. And yet...
More news is emerging that ties the Nevada disruption to his campaign. This is a very bad business. As soon as I heard about a Sanders convention delegate calling Barbara Boxer a "bitch," it was clear to me that the campaign is out of control. And that WAS a Sanders delegate. Once the convention's business starts, only credentialed delegates and party officials are allowed in the room.
I've been a convention delegate. The rules are followed. I have never once witnessed anything like what happened in Nevada.
Where's Bernie? Where is his statement? I want to hear from him.

(6,551 posts)Sanders won't get the nomination. However if he was the nominee, his response to the Nevada fiasco raises the question: How would he respond to the 24/7 attacks by the Republicans on his biography - associations with Communists and Marxists, support for the Sandinistas and Fidel Castro, and all of the rest?
The rabid Republicans would be relentless (think the Swiftboaters and Willie Horton), and I don't think Bernie would handle it well.

(5,240 posts)Sanders Statement on Nevada
May 17, 2016
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders on Tuesday issued the following statement:
It is imperative that the Democratic leadership, both nationally and in the states, understand that the political world is changing and that millions of Americans are outraged at establishment politics and establishment economics. The people of this country want a government which represents all of us, not just the 1 percent, super PACs and wealthy campaign contributors.
The Democratic Party has a choice. It can open its doors and welcome into the party people who are prepared to fight for real economic and social change people who are willing to take on Wall Street, corporate greed and a fossil fuel industry which is destroying this planet. Or the party can choose to maintain its status quo structure, remain dependent on big-money campaign contributions and be a party with limited participation and limited energy.
Within the last few days there have been a number of criticisms made against my campaign organization. Party leaders in Nevada, for example, claim that the Sanders campaign has a penchant for violence. That is nonsense. Our campaign has held giant rallies all across this country, including in high-crime areas, and there have been zero reports of violence. Our campaign of course believes in non-violent change and it goes without saying that I condemn any and all forms of violence, including the personal harassment of individuals. But, when we speak of violence, I should add here that months ago, during the Nevada campaign, shots were fired into my campaign office in Nevada and apartment housing complex my campaign staff lived in was broken into and ransacked.
If the Democratic Party is to be successful in November, it is imperative that all state parties treat our campaign supporters with fairness and the respect that they have earned. I am happy to say that has been the case at state conventions in Maine, Alaska, Colorado and Hawaii where good discussions were held and democratic decisions were reached. Unfortunately, that was not the case at the Nevada convention. At that convention the Democratic leadership used its power to prevent a fair and transparent process from taking place. Among other things:
The chair of the convention announced that the convention rules passed on voice vote, when the vote was a clear no-vote. At the very least, the Chair should have allowed for a headcount.
The chair allowed its Credentials Committee to en mass rule that 64 delegates were ineligible without offering an opportunity for 58 of them to be heard. That decision enabled the Clinton campaign to end up with a 30-vote majority.
The chair refused to acknowledge any motions made from the floor or allow votes on them.
The chair refused to accept any petitions for amendments to the rules that were properly submitted.
These are on top of failures at the precinct and county conventions including trying to depose and then threaten with arrest the Clark County convention credentials chair because she was operating too fairly.
