It just gets worse for Romney!
Romneys relief event outside of Dayton, Ohio, was surreal enough to be a campaign parody, with the candidate comparing the federal governments hurricane relief efforts to the time he and some friends had to clean up a football field strewn with rubbish and paper products. It was supposed to be a parable of how Republicans handle disaster with private charity, not government intervention as Romney told his audience, Its part of the American spirit, the American way, to give to people in need.

(5,059 posts)to picking up "rubbish and paper products" is--insensitive might be the mildest word to use.
Who does he think the Red Cross is? 90-something percent volunteers--Americans helping Americans in need. We were taught to say, "This is a gift from the American people." I wish Republicans could know how many times I had to argue with people to get them to accept anything--and how many people cried because they were in position where they had to accept help.

(22,885 posts)If he REALLY wanted to help, he could have written a big, fat check! Shamefully using that disastrous storm in his quest to win the W.H. is truly sickening.
I keep thinking he's reached rock bottom, and each time I'm wrong.

(13 posts)A Summary Romney/Ryans Plans to Slash FEMA: Summary of their stated plans to slash disaster relief funding and to put it under the control of the states, instead of the Federal government's Hands.
Why analysts say this is a terrible plan, especially in the face of massive recent storms and the increase of global warming. Former Bush director Mike Brown (Browny) said on 'The Young Turks" TV show last night that FEMA only has a check book, not equipment, and needs the help of massive resources when disasters hit.. (he ripped Bush's strategy as well..see link to it below). These huge resources cannot be maintained consistently by states.

*As one analyst says, Romney & Ryan say they don't strongly believe in the government, so why are they running for it? So easy to slash and burn when you haven't needed the safety net. For proof of how great privatizing government services is, I just look to how badly Haliburton & Dick Cheney ripped off the govt. during the Iraq War.
