The Democratic Convention in the Wells Fargo Center

Last edited Mon May 9, 2016, 10:31 AM - Edit history (3)

...in Philadelphia will be chaired by Ed Rendell. He works for an investment bank and for an oil-and-gas exploration company.

The Rules Committee will be co-chaired by Barney Frank. He works for Signature Bank, which is both a savings bank and an investment bank.

FDR will be rolling over in his grave.

Update: DUers below point out Rendell will chair the Host Committee and not the convention itself.

I get "access" to the convention hall to watch in person; I get "access" to a hotel rooom; I get "access" to some host committee Parties. The rest of my time will be spent attending policy wonk sessions and sponsored events (you know, evil organizations like Planned Parenthood, Feeding America, the ACLU) which, quite frankly, anyone could attend if they showed up.

conversations with politicians and candidates at such conventions. Even at our little district conventions in Minnesota, I manage to get a few minutes with my district's state legislators and our House representative along with the Mayor and other local officials. Best place to do that is off the convention floor in the entry area and hallways.

They're not usually long conversations, but I always manage to ask them about issues of concern to me and voice my opinion. A Delegate badge generally is plenty of introduction, and everyone I've spoken to has been helpful and friendly. You just walk right up and introduce yourself and ask your question or make your comment.

And, by talking, I usually mean getting an update on the race and their prospects. I don't have have a long list of "demands" other than things like progressive taxation, support for Syrian refugees, stronger firearms regulations, infrastructure investment...

They mean you have paid with time, money, and progressive values. You have given all three for a long time. Well done. I think it's now funny that people who support democrats are viewed negatively around here.

Or tell her to turn on her TV. She can find me somewhere in the sea of people who will be there.

Ed Rendell is NOT the Chair of the Convention. Ed is the Chair of the HOST COMMITTEE which does the logistical planning (hotel rooms, traffic planning, shuttle buses, receptions, etc.).

But feel free to resume your outrage.

Someone on MSNBC this morning said both parties will end up going the way of the dinosaurs and maybe they should. The GOP is getting their comeuppance this election cycle with the nomination of Trump. You can't cater to the elites forever and expect the gravy train to never reach the station. Average people are mad as hell and they're not going to take it anymore.

Ed Rendell is chair of the Host Committee, which works with the host city to plan the convention. He will not be the chair of the Convention. No way.
