(I don't think there has been an election like this ever.)The U.S. presidential election may turn out to be one of the world's biggest un-popularity contests.
Nearly half of American voters who support either Democrat Hillary Clinton or Republican Donald Trump for the White House said they will mainly be trying to block the other side from winning, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released Thursday.
The results reflect a deepening ideological divide in the United States, where people are becoming increasingly fearful of the opposing party, a feeling worsened by the likely matchup between the New York real estate tycoon and the former first lady, said Larry Sabato, director of the University of Virginias Center for Politics.
"This phenomenon is called negative partisanship," Sabato said. "If we were trying to maximize the effect, we couldn't have found better nominees than Trump and Clinton."
Trump has won passionate supporters and vitriolic detractors for his blunt talk and hardline proposals, including his call for a ban on Muslims entering the United States, his vow to force Mexico to pay for a border wall, and his promise to renegotiate international trade deals.

(10,164 posts)...is that the poster want the FBI to return a request for indictment before the convention. In other words, for Bernie, not Trump.

(384 posts)lead over Trump that she once had over Bernie. She's a classic choke artist. Based on her history of losing big leads, Id say this map predicts a Trump landslide.

I don't follow Trump closely enough to know what a trumpism is myself. I know that she is a fundamentally flawed candidate who gets weaker as people learn more about her.

(That's the thing about these Trump supporters that wander into DU, whether from the cave or directly from a trump rally, they reveal themselves by the depth of their thumb-fingered racism, misogyny and desire to ape their Dear Leader.).

On every one of those issues that i was aware she existed, she was on the wrong side. She's a flawed candidate.

(384 posts)You got it. And that's why I'm terrified of the damage she will do. Her neocon, pro growth agenda is a serious threat the the future or our planet. You simply cant have infinate growth in a finite system. We need to start rewarding people for conserving resources instead of exploiting them. We need to be rewarding labor and talent rather than wealth and influence. We need to raise women's pay to equality by failrly valuing the things they already do, not by encouraging them to act more like men. We need to encourage collaboration instead of competition. That's the future i want tobhave for my kids.

The GOPers have a weird dynamic where they can pull their shit together before the General Election.
So far, this election has upset most political rationale. Predictions of a "weak" Trump should be met with caution.

(6,329 posts)The reasons for Trump and Clinton look identical. Stopping the other candidate is the main motivation. Fear, fear, and more fear.
