Fresh off his victory in Indiana, Bernie Sanders expressed confidence that he can pull off "one of the great political upsets" in American history to defeat Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton and presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump.
At a Tuesday night press conference, the Vermont senator touted the momentum of his campaign while acknowledging that it's an uphill battle for him to clinch the nomination.
"We feel great about tonight, not only in winning here in Indiana ... but also gaining the momentum we need to take us to the finish line," Sanders said. "I sense some great deal of momentum. I sense some great victories coming."
"I sense some great victories coming, and I think while the path is narrow and I do not deny that for a moment I think we can pull off one of the great political upsets in the history of the United States and in fact become the nominee for the Democratic Party," he continued. "And once we secure that position, I have absolute confidence that we are gonna defeat Donald Trump in the general election."

Sanders said he believes he's the best candidate to take on Trump in November. The real estate mogul is now the presumptive GOP nominee after his landslide victory in Indiana prompted Ted Cruz to suspend his campaign.

(10,721 posts)The reality is that Sanders now needs an even greater percentage of the remaining delegates than he needed prior to the Indiana primary.

(11,546 posts)He's been up against the Democratic establishment, the MSM, people not knowing WHO he is, precarious voting results in many states, very rich/powerful super pacs on the other side, and of course probably the most well known woman in politics and he is STILL winning some states! Bravo!

(24,010 posts)I called it, early on. Bernie Sanders is Seabiscuit--that squat, knock-kneed, empathetic horse with the heart of a great warrior who became the greatest and most loved race horse of all time, with utterly improbable victories that almost no one believed to be possible, who galvanized the American people in the darkest days of the Great Depression.
I just happened to be reading about Seabiscuit when I first became aware of Sanders' presidential campaign back in July-August 2015. As Sanders rode to one improbable victory after another--with, of course, big setbacks and dark moments all along the way (as with Seabiscuit) and with the entire establishment ridiculing him and trying their very best to ignore him (just as with Seabiscuit), I felt the heart of a great warrior arising among us. I wrote about it here. It's in my journal.
Americans do love an underdog--the come-from-behind winner, the one who fools "the experts," the one with all the handicaps and all the odds against him, the ragamuffin with the undiscovered genius, the one with a GREAT HEART who NEVER gives up.
That is Seabiscuit.
That is Bernie Sanders.

Seabiscuit beats WAR Admiral.
War Admiral was the regal ruler of racing, the son of the great Man OWar (though Seabiscuit was related as well) who had won racings Triple Crown in 1937, an aristocratic horse that seemed unbeatable.
A little horse with the heart of a lion and the flying feet of a gazelle yesterday proved his place as the gamest thoroughbred that ever raced over an American track.

(5,636 posts)He can't beat Hillary. He can't beat Donald. If he didn't run for office in a white liberal state like Vermont, he probably wouldn't even be in politics.

I'll definitely go with "Feel The Bern". I think Bernie's right that most voters would too.

(21,328 posts)A pathetically low turnout election in Indiana that netted him five delegates doesn't mean much.

(587 posts)but he has a legion of naive doe-eyed sycophants that will keep throwing money at him believing his bullshit.
And he is only too happy to continue selling them an impossible dream to keep filling his coffers with cash.

Sorry, Hillary changes nothing. Bernie does. Hillary is more of the same and Bernie is fresh. In a GE, Bernie does better than Hillary and that is all to it.

(2,550 posts)His chances in November are Zero.
He has already lost the nomination since early March.
He won't get to November because he won't get past July.

(6,007 posts)It's an incredulous feeling of amazement that people believe this fraudulent campaign of untruths.
I personally did not care if Bernie stays in, but I'm extremely upset at him and his supporters spewing falsehoods about a path to the nomination and his calculated raising of money from people by selling false hope.
It's disgusting to me.
