White House Correspondent's Dinner...Bernie and Jane have Arrived...

Check your C-Span Cable Sites...and then check CBS Network. Twitter, Facebook, etc. for "White House Correspondents Dinner." Or check Larry Wilmore's Site or just jump around your Cable...

The Celebrities have done the Red Carpet Preening and they are All Ready to Eat!

 Bernie is going to be sitting at the CBS table with some very interesting people. And, he's the only Presidential Candidate who was asked to attend the dinner.

----------------

President Obama's final White House Correspondents' Dinner.

Journalists, politicians and celebrities will pile into the Washington Hilton on Saturday night for President Obama's final White House Correspondents' Dinner.

Watch CBSN at 6 p.m. ET for coverage of the 2016 White House Correspondents' Dinner

Red carpet arrivals will begin around 5:30 p.m. ET, the actual dinner begins at 7:30 p.m. ET.

CBS News guests are Aretha Franklin, Morgan Freeman, Damian Lewis, Lori McCreary, and Bernie Sanders as well as Defense Secretary Ash Carter, White House senior adviser Valerie Jarrett, Sens. Tim Scott and Amy Klobuchar, Reps. Steny Hoyer and Will Hurd, former U.S. Ambassador to Italy David Thorne and Walter Isaacson.

Mr. Obama and comedian Larry Wilmore are expected to deliver their remarks around 9:45 p.m. ET.

Now in the midst of the 2016 presidential campaign, Mr. Obama will almost certainly throw some humorous jabs at Donald Trump and some of the other Republican candidates, which he did last year at the beginning of the campaign. He said, for example, that "Donald Trump is here... still."

9. One of the networks invited him,ABC I think.

Which is pretty interesting considering Sander's criticism of the cozy relationship between the powerful mainstream media and Washington politicians.

16. This seems to be how he's invited to everything.

His favorite line these days must be, "hey buddy, do ya got an extra ticket for me?"

His is the most desperate campaign I have seen in my lifetime.

32. It he just swings to the right, he'd get in with no problems.

.

Swing to the right
Try to face the fact that I ain't that young no more
Hair's short again and a suit is in,
Better brush up on how to tie a Windsor knot

Swing to the right
Credit's hard to find and a dollar doesn't go so far
What's more important when the count comes in
A sell-out who's alive or a corpse that can't be bought?

Stop the hands of time
Think I see a sign
Tables turning 'round
Hear a different sound
Stop the hands of time
Looking out for mine

Swing to the right
Don't want to hear what the povertous expect from me
Let 'em eat cake if they feel that way
I gotta work, why should I have to pay for that?

Swing to the right
And I don't want to be left holding the bag for them
'S'causee me for living but I have to say,
I've got some worries of my own, like staying fat

Stop the hands of time
Think I see a sign
Tables turning 'round
Hear a different sound
Stop the hands of time
Looking out for mine

.

19. I do too. Don't know how old you are, but

Obama's understated delivery reminds me of Johnny Carson.

That said, I don't approve of stand-up comedian being added to the job description of our president. "Must be good at telling jokes." This new demand-performance "gig" is inappropriate and undignified.

Obama's fortunate that he's good at it. Just imagine Bernie up there trying to pretend he was having fun as he worked his way through one of these things. He'd do okay with the usual good writing and practice, of course, but why should any of them have to?

25. I can imagine some of the other Presidents

in history trying to be funny. Millard Fillmore I guess would have to make jokes about his name. Andrew Jackson would probably have been mean and offensive. I'm not sure how many Presidents have passed on this dinner, but I think most have really enjoyed ribbing the media. Their lines are written by professionals and they should be used to public speaking. I'd guess that they enjoy the chance, for one night a year, to give it back to the press.

35. Fillmore, and yet he became president anyway?

Lol. I looked up the dinner, and this struck me as pretty funny too: "Prior to World War II, the annual dinner featured singing between courses, a homemade movie and an hour-long, post-dinner show with big-name performers."

I didn't find any presidents who've refused to perform since that became a part of it. In scanning several articles, I found no clear mention of when our bizarre ritual of president-as-stand-up-comic thing started, but it seems to have been with our first entertainer president, Ronald Reagan.

The dinner is criticized, not for my reasons, but as an example of corruption of the Washington press corps through excessive "insider cabal" coziness with those they're supposed to be covering, the NY Times deciding some years ago not to attend. And now, according to excited pre-dinner chatter on TV, sitting senators and cabinet officers are second-stringers to Hollywood A-List attendees. It may just implode at some point, so we might as well enjoy while we can, which I did. Obama's really great.

Sarcasm of course! For someone who hates the establishment, there is nothing more establishment than the Correspondent's Dinner, interesting.

To even suggest he was the only candidate invited is pretty lame as well.

13. Did they try to push Barack and Michelle out the way?

You know, they are so much more superior than those two. Jane Sanders is ten times the woman that Michelle Obama could even dream to be and Barack Obama shouldn't even be in the same room with the great Bernie Sanders.
