3. Interesting, Hillary nor O'Malley campaign accessed others information.
It has determined there was information exported. For the Sanders team to withdraw their law suit is a good move on the Sanders team since it would have released more information about the breach and would not result in a decision in favor of Sanders team. Guess who did not file a suit, the two who had their information breached.

Totally fucking amazing, right? Not like all of us didn't know the truth of it. As they tell us we need to feel shame for voting for our Democratic candidate that has spent a lifetime doing the best she can, for others.

106. Russell Drapkin, Hawley Brett, and Ali Nikseresht were not fired.
There was talk of suspensions, but they needed Nikseresht to run the NGP-VAN software process since he was intimately familiar with the software and is considered one of its architects. Drapkin was the lead coordinator, so he wasn't fired either. Brett is the only name that could fall under the suspension they talked about. No names were mentioned under the "suspension" language.
But certainly they picked Josh Uretsky as the fall guy. |

132. Or it wasn't coordinated.
"Eleven states," but one computer system and one interface. I can imagine the following.
One worker--let's call the worker Taylor--tries something and finds that it's possible to access proprietary information. Wrong, but in the spirit of "my privacy is sacred, you don't get privacy" thinking that many seem to like, Taylor decided to run some searches. The thrill of forbidden fruit. Or perhaps it was personal, and he liked putting one over on the enemy. That's always righteous. Then Taylor can't help pointing out the new-found information to three colleagues--perhaps in the same room, perhaps a text. "Hey, guys, look what I did!" The thrill of narcissism. So then four Bernisians were running the searches. At some point somebody said, "Hey, what if we're caught?" Or perhaps they had some task to finish and realized lunch was over. Or perhaps their supervisor came in the room and said, "Aren't you supposed to be doing ________?" The fear of getting in trouble. Suddenly one person gets fired--our "Taylor"--and you get precisely the data on which many base the claim of coordinated and intentional action by the campaign, but without the coordination and intent. |

37. If it were Hillary? In 2008, there was a similar incident
with Hillary staff accessing Obama data. But in that case, there was no sanction taken against Hillary's campaign, whereas in this instance, they immediately cut off their access to the database, which was in violation of their contract This was one of the reasons the campaign was complaining about unfair treatment -- that and the fact that it was the DNC's contractural reponsibility to keep the data secure, and the there had been warnings from IT professionals in the past about relying exclusively on one company.
According NP VAN, the searches were not--and could not have been--saved in such a way that allowed the campaign to access the searches once the breach was fixed. The only thing that was capable of being exported for future use was the statistical summary mentioned above. This does lend some credence to the fired staff persons statement that he was doing search to document the extent of the breach rather than to use it for the advantage of the campaign. |

93. Explanation from NGP VAN
First, a one page-style report containing summary data on a list was saved out of VoteBuilder by one Sanders user. This is what some people have referred to as the “export” from VoteBuilder. As noted below, users were unable to export lists of people. Second, there has been independent confirmation that NGP VAN has not received previous notice of a data breach regarding NGP VAN. Josh Uretsky, the former National Data Director for the Sanders campaign confirmed on MSNBC (at 5:47), and also on CNN, regarding the previous incident: “it wasn’t actually within the VAN VoteBuilder system, it was another system.” https://blog.ngpvan.com/news/data-security-and-privacy |

And it's a statement from the DNC, the head of which started the smearing of Sanders over this by unprofessionally going to the press rather than take the appropriate steps, and who also doled out unusually harsh and probably illegal denial of access to his own voter database. The same DNC who tried to limit debates because their/her favorite candidate didn't want them. Oh sure... anything coming out from them is a "full autopsy" and not at all biased.
