2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThe Myth of the Bernie Bros
This video sums it up why Bernie supporters are so sick and tired of being called Bernie Bros!
Every rally I've been to has been a mixture of beautiful people of all ages.

No doubt the "bernie bros" thing was created to cover for THEIR attacks, much like "going negative" and "tone" were to deflect from Bill and Hillary screaming at liberals and Greenpeace.

(1,511 posts)My caucus was like this too, all ages, sexes, and all races. The women at my work are more disgusted with her than me, they are tired of being marginalized. I liked the guy that said divide and conquer, they are definitely trying that.

(39,451 posts)I should be used to it tho, in 2008 I was called an Obama Bro by the Hillary campaign.

(1,511 posts)Washington did not fall for her that time either, we did not like the war, we had issues with her race-baiting, and my extended family were from Kenya...so it did not play well with anyone. I think the media was less bought of that time too?
Else You Are Mad
(3,040 posts)They called the supporters of a black candidate 'Obama BOYS'. Nope, no subtle racism there.

That is the element of truth in the Bernie Bros image, despite the photo.

(17,651 posts)One is as offensive as the other imo but you don't see Sanders' supporters using the latter slur.
Camp HRH owns it all.
Sanders' was chastised to the point he was forced to tell people he didn't even know whether or not they are his actual supporters to stop it.
What about Clinton? Has she told anyone to cut it out besides wallstreet? Nope.
Helluva "tell".

(20,411 posts)While "thinking" they are helping the campaign, they are actually damaging it more. Even Bernie and his campaign realize that and have made efforts to stop the damage.

That sentiment is no different than the GOP pointing to the existence of the Log Cabin Republicans as proof of their LGBTQ outreach.

(28,749 posts)I think it's unfair to paint all his supporters with the term but the candidate himself certainly acknowledges their existence.
Comments I jotted down from a recent short visit to GG-P:
Asshole behavior is all camp Clinton offered from day one.
You all can't seem to understand our disdain for your side.
Petty and mean and winning at all costs.
Divisive, nasty and arrogant.
Petty little people with hate-filled hearts.
They love their trolls and trollish behavior.
Got to be tiring shoveling shit day in, day out.
Hill Shills.
Rovian drone. Brock puppets.
Incoming: Poutrage!
I don't think age or gender has anything to do with being a Berniebro. Hate and stupidity does.

I am and have always been aware of Bernie Sanders and to my happy surprise he announced his candidacy for President
My whole family supports Bernie Sanders
I do not have any brothers
Yet, I have been insulted at every term by Hilary Clintonites who refuse to acknowledge who and what she is. I know Americans tend to have little knowledge of history but this is absurd
I will never vote for her. I will write in Sanders. I will vote for Stein but I will never vote for Clinton (and no I have never voted for a Republican in my entire life).

(12,609 posts)I have heard about it. Its disgusting, Sanders said. Look, we dont want that crap. ... We will do everything we can and I think we have tried. Look, anybody who is supporting me that is doing the sexist things is we dont want them. I dont want them. That is not what this campaign is about.

(15,190 posts)The "Bernie Bro" meme was particularly odious. I plan to be watching for things to correct that on a quantum level.

(7,299 posts)I have observed as much nastiness and intolerance from Sanders supporters that rivals anything I've observed on mixed political forums from the far Right. That is my main lesson learned during this election cycle.

(33,224 posts)"Nuh-uh! Lies! Hardly any white guys here! We're real americans!"
I can't escape noticing that no other two words describing an opponents supporters could be used to bias and prejudice american voters against a candidate.
Shit, when Romney was accused of being supported by corporations, there were people who rose to even their defense. "Corporations are people, my friend!"
The Clinton campaign has found this to be one of it's more effective smears, while the Sanders campaign reacts as if it's the worst insult possible.
Remind me again... we don't understand why white men vote Republican, right?
