(5,356 posts)Sure, that's technically a D, because the NRA is looking for purity, but being 70% pro-gun is pretty significant. He may not be a dues-paying, card carrying member of the NRA, but he clearly votes in their favor the majority of the time.
Imagine if Clinton supporters tried to argue that she was not pro wall street because she only votes in their favor 69% of the time!

(5,356 posts)When the body of the article shows 18 votes that they categorize as being pro-gun positions and only 8 votes in favor of gun control. That looks like "largely" pro gun votes to me. It also puts the NRA's "D" grade into perspective. He votes in their favor 69% of the time. Of course the NRA is looking for ideological purity, and framing it as a letter grade makes him look a lot more anti-gun than he really is. But 70% support is pretty major!
And for 5 of his 8 anti-gun votes, he ended up voting with the majority. Without knowing the details of each bill, this could mean that he made token liberal votes when the outcome was already clear and his vote wasn't needed.

(11,945 posts)It's possible they see her through the lens of a poor, picked-on, struggling woman trying to make it in a man's world and this sympathetic "little Nell" image crowds out her moral depravity, total selfishness and inability to care for others.
It's too bad, because they are making a terrible mistake.
