(14,255 posts)So - I want Bernie. Looking at values and issues, not gender and the now-meaningless "D".

The prospect of a Hillary Clinton Presidency depresses me on many levels. First off, her "qualifications" are nonsense. Her judgement in the international arena is truly terrible. Her glib lies on virtually everything are pathetic ("We dodged sniper fire in Bosnia", "Most illegal guns in New York come from Vermont" . They show that she will simply say anything that comes to mind if she thinks it makes some point, and is blissfully unaware that in this brave new world of the internet facts, those pesky things, can be checked.
She changes her mind every time she thinks it will be to her advantage and co-opts positions she once opposed if she thinks that supporting them will give her votes. Notice she no longer mentions supporting a $12 minimum wage and acts as if she's been in favor of $15 all along.
It just goes on and on.

(3,017 posts)There are many Democrats I don't like, many female politicians I don't like, and Hillary belongs to both groups.
I would be supporting Bernie whether he was running as a Democrat or as a Green Party candidate or as an Independent. What is important to me is electing somebody who is honest and will do his or her best to get money out of politics and take the country back from the special interests who are running it.

(10,164 posts)I couldn't care less about either of those factors. A female nominee is an "it would be nice" thing...not something that actually influences me in terms of supporting a candidate. Hillary and I share the same lack of a Y chromosome...but almost nothing else.
I also couldn't care less if the next president has a "D" behind their name. That's just branding. What matters to me is that they fight for progressive causes.

(30,481 posts)Awesome enough, the progressive the people are choosing also happens to be a woman. Win win for me.

(8,749 posts)She has never, seriously, claimed to be a progressive. Her stances and policies put her, firmly in the liberal realm. And of them, she's a moderate. She's a bit to the right of Al Franken. She's still firmly on the left side, but I'd never think of her as a progressive.

(8,749 posts)It might be Bernie, it might be Hillary. Whomever it is, I'm voting for that person. And I will sleep well with my choice.
