(548 posts)I am not a Sanders' supporter but Jane seems to be a very nice and sweet lady. I actually feel sorry for her. Bernie just doesn't show much affection towards her. I know long-term marriage does that to couples but she deserves better.

(34,825 posts)Or maybe it's just that you don't believe that Hillary deserves better.

(910 posts)marriage? At least Bill limited it to just oral.

(8,760 posts)Using the word "limited" when it comes to Bill's infidelities is hilarious.
And if you believe that he stuck to oral only, you might be delusional.

Such ugly things you say about Bernie. It's what I've come to expect from Hill supporters.
All I can say is, I'm so glad I'm not one of you. I would not like myself if I were.

(1,166 posts)Clinton supporters on here. I don't think I've read one comment supporting her policies or positions. Just tabloid type junk thrown on the wall over and over.
I think it's been shocking and disappointing for most of us. It speaks to the mentality of the commenters.
We have to be careful not to let it get us too angry. It's not worth it and would only be used against us. (Need to remind myself of this!)

(20,582 posts)I think we're lucky we don't understand how people can be so awful about someone who's never done a thing to hurt anyone. It hurts my head just trying to figure out why.

(11,945 posts)The truth is, we're the sincere, hopeful ones who are met daily with uncalled for verbal abuse in these threads.
Over and over again, happy threads are suddenly swarmed by an influx of jeering, taunting, insulting remarks. Happens more often than not.
All I can figure is, they're unhappy. But most of us have had rough times, unhappy experiences. Most of us haven't had it easy. But it didn't make us permanently mean.
Maybe a psychologist could explain it.

mythology
(9,527 posts)I mean I saw on the internet from somebody who doesn't know them that they aren't affectionate. And if I saw it on the internet it must be true.
But to the OP's point, unfortunately a substantial number of people on the internet feel the need to act like absolute assholes, particularly toward women. It happened to an acquaintance of mine who decided that she wanted to compete men's gymnastics and an article was written about her efforts. The comments section was just utterly vile with people saying she was really a guy, or transgender and that she obviously lied about having twins because she wasn't born female and just on and on.
There was a good This American Life piece about a guy who set up a fake email to troll a woman author by pretending to be her dead dad.
All sorts of women who are active online get death and rape threats.
It's a much bigger issue than what either campaign is dealing with and started long before this election cycle.
polly7
(20,582 posts)minorities and anyone else they hate/are obsessed with/fear that they wouldn't dare do it to in real life. I've seen all the reports of suicide of those who couldn't handle it anymore. As far as I'm concerned (and being from Canada where our laws are slightly different) - that level of vileness you're speaking of should have legal ramifications. I was stalked online and in real life - it turns your whole life upside down. No woman, child or man should have to deal with it. Jane Sanders is a very intelligent, personable and attractive woman, inside and out. I hope she has the self-confidence to get through this. I do feel so sorry for her - and Bernie ... it must be beyond hard for him to even hear about this crap.

(3,017 posts)If there are a handful of people who say they are Hillary supporters who are bad mouthing Jane Sanders, I am not going to hold Hillary or her supporters at DU responsible for it. We know that the BernieBros narrative came out of exactly the same kind of garbage. If there's no evidence Hillary's campaign is doing it (including Brock and the others) and people aren't doing it, let's be bigger than they were on the BernieBros bullshit.

(27,995 posts)She said in an interview today that she is a strategist for the Sanders' campaign. She's much more than "simply a wife." So I think that her statements are fair game.
HOWEVER, I think that ANY comments about her looks, hair, clothing are sexist and misogynistic. I will call out anyone who does so.

(3,431 posts)admit that there were a lot of nasty remarks about
the looks of the Donald, Cruz, and especially Chris
Christie.
I also remember people complaining about Bernie's
hair etc.
Thus these attacks on physical appearances are not
uncommon.
So let us stick to character, judgement and policies,
which are the most important issues in and during
any campaign, locally or federally.

But hey, I'm glad you recognize how juvenile that shit is and are calling for it to stop. Hopefully you will speak up when they do it to Hillary too.
