Over and over again, happy threads are suddenly swarmed by an influx of jeering, taunting, insulting remarks. Happens more often than not.

All I can figure is, they're unhappy. But most of us have had rough times, unhappy experiences. Most of us haven't had it easy. But it didn't make us permanently mean.

I mean I saw on the internet from somebody who doesn't know them that they aren't affectionate. And if I saw it on the internet it must be true.

But to the OP's point, unfortunately a substantial number of people on the internet feel the need to act like absolute assholes, particularly toward women. It happened to an acquaintance of mine who decided that she wanted to compete men's gymnastics and an article was written about her efforts. The comments section was just utterly vile with people saying she was really a guy, or transgender and that she obviously lied about having twins because she wasn't born female and just on and on.

There was a good This American Life piece about a guy who set up a fake email to troll a woman author by pretending to be her dead dad.

All sorts of women who are active online get death and rape threats.

It's a much bigger issue than what either campaign is dealing with and started long before this election cycle.

As far as I'm concerned (and being from Canada where our laws are slightly different) - that level of vileness you're speaking of should have legal ramifications. I was stalked online and in real life - it turns your whole life upside down. No woman, child or man should have to deal with it. Jane Sanders is a very intelligent, personable and attractive woman, inside and out. I hope she has the self-confidence to get through this. I do feel so sorry for her - and Bernie ... it must be beyond hard for him to even hear about this crap.

once again, the low road tactic is going to nauseate more people than it convinces

it's a voter suppression tactic, pure and simple

She has put up with this kind of shit for decades. And there has been a ton of that shit flung at her from posters on this site. Some of them are even Men's Right's idiots who somehow conned the admins into giving them a voice here.

I'm happy to see you speaking up about this. I hope you will speak out when you see the same nastiness directed at Clinton.

My level of disgust for these type of attacks from the Hillary camp is beyond words. I can understand the desire to divert attention, but to do so by attacking Jane Sanders on "appearance" is incredibly juvenile, and needs to stop immediately.

You obviously couldn't handle being a Hillary supporter then. She has had to deal with 100,000 times that crap here from Bernie supporters and trolls. And she's had to deal with that crap for decades from the msm and right wingers.

But hey, I'm glad you recognize how juvenile that shit is and are calling for it to stop. Hopefully you will speak up when they do it to Hillary too.
