2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThe Cult of Bernie: How Blind Adoration Masked One of America's Most Deceitful Presidential Campaign
Yet the true Bernie Sanders is proving himself to be one of the most deceitful and dishonest presidential candidates we've ever had.
And the media is to blame. They needed a horse race and to do that they chose not to vet Bernie Sanders to keep up his likeable image. They embraced him when he appeared on Saturday Night Live. They covered his record-breaking rallies, failing to mention that these rallies took place in college towns with thousands of impressionable first-time voters. They brushed off any missteps by the campaign with an aw-shucks mentality. They created narratives that favored the campaign and adjusted the expectations for each primary or caucus accordingly. They hyped up his wins and downplayed his losses. They gave him softball interview questions on the Sunday morning shows. They did all this while ignoring the fact that Hillary Clinton has never trailed in the Democratic primary and that she has built up a lead that has been greater than Barack Obama's ever was during the 2008 primary. The media did all this in an effort to protect Bernie Sanders and to present the illusion that he was a viable candidate for president.
But the truth hurts. Bernie Sanders' campaign has been malicious. Despite promising to run a clean campaign, it has been one of the dirtiest and most deceitful campaigns our country has ever seen. The evidence has been right there all along, but our media has been complacent in pretending that it has not been happening. Just look at where the Sanders campaign is now. Sanders constantly attacks Clinton from Wall Street to big banks to her Goldman Sachs transcripts to her campaign contributions. Not a day goes by where Sanders isn't doing the bidding for Karl Rove. In fact, it's gotten to be such a part of the culture of his campaign that Sanders is now attacking Clinton based on things he thinks might be true. We saw this with his recent claim that Hillary Clinton was "not qualified" to be president, which was based on his errant interpretation of a Washington Post article for which he simply skimmed the headline and nothing more. By this point, practically nothing is off limits.
In fact, Sanders saw how attacks worked well against Hillary Clinton, so he now feels empowered to attack anyone he feels has wronged his campaign. This has started with the Democratic National Committee, the group that provided Sanders with the much-needed media exposure that he claimed was only possible by running as a Democratic candidate for president. Yet Sanders has in no way been a grateful house guest under the DNC's roof. In addition to refusing to raise money for down-ballot Democratic candidates, Sanders has also chosen to sue the DNC after he had the gall to try and steal voter information from the DNC's online database. Sanders has also constantly whined about the debate schedule going so far as to demand that the DNC not even be part of the upcoming debate in New York City. Sanders has done all this despite the DNC having made his entire campaign possible by providing him with access to media and debates that he wouldn't have had as a third party candidate.

(58,785 posts)Bernie hasn't run quite as clean a campaign as he said he would (who thought it would be "squeaky" anyway?), but he has for the most part carefully avoided personal criticism. Hillary has too. Both have tried to protect the Democratic Party's image and chances in the GE by not behaving in ways that could be compared with the mess on the right.
That their campaigns are nevertheless described as series of "attacks" is not their fault but that of dishonest, irresponsible media who need to pump drama into what would otherwise be too dignified a race to suit their profit margins.

Bernie Sanders a republican?
My irony meter just exploded.
But just like at at Hillary fund raiser, Hillary supporters like to live in their own bubble of dishonest white noise of establishment privilege given to them by their corporate candidate with close ideological ties to...you guessed it...GOP!
Hillary works together with GOP when it benefits them both. Wall Street is funding both the Ted Cruz campaign as well as Hillary's campaign. And here Hillary and her supporters are so delusional that this money only corrupts one of them.
Again, excuse me while I'm having another outburst of laughter.
Wonder if you were on that side during Hillary's rotten to the core campaign in 2008. And I wonder what issues you have with Bernie where you praise the Clinton camp'sidiotic sexist accusation meme is just pathetic.
Bernie has just responded to Hillary's insane swiftboating since before SC and his civil rights record. Bernie was a gentleman. Now that those pesky black votes are in the fix, both Hillary and Bill can go back to their racist roots while defending the real superpredators who funds their campaign.
Other than that, the pathetic attempt to defend Lloyd Blankfein and war criminmals is cute. And very telling. Very republican!

REASON FOR ALERT
This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.
ALERTER'S COMMENTS
Calling Sen Sanders the most dishonest man ever to run for president is way over the top - compared to Trump, Bush, even Reagan? Skinner said to tone down the rhetoric against both candidates.
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Mon Apr 11, 2016, 06:54 PM, and the Jury voted 3-4 to LEAVE IT.
Juror #1 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: Patently. Do you really use the word patently.
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Really?
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Post a reasoned response instead of hitting the alert button. Anyone old enough to remember Nixon, Reagan or either of Bush disasters knows what a load this post is. Anyone remember Pat Buchanan, John McCain, Mitt Romney or Lyndon LaRouche. Give your brain a workout instead of your alerting finger.
Juror #4 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Many worse things are said on the other side. It's just that time in the campaign cycle.
Juror #7 voted to HIDE IT

That would seem to me quite "controlling" behavior to try to do that. I can understand if the owners have a problem with what is written because they own the board. It would certainly be unfortunate if people don't feel free to post anti-Sanders or anti-Clinton articles comments in their own groups unless they are outright lies or something completely outrageous.
