New CBS NEWS poll Obama 48 Romney 46

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-250_162-57537319/poll-obama-has-slight-national-lead-over-romney/?tag=contentMain;contentBody

President Obama continues to hold a very slight lead over Mitt Romney - within the margin of error - according to a new CBS News poll released today.

Forty-eight percent of likely voters say they'll vote for Mr. Obama, while 46 percent support Romney, virtually unchanged from our last poll taken in September. The poll was conducted between Oct. 17-20, after the presidential candidates' second debate on Oct. 16.

.....
The poll also shows a narrowing of the gender gap. Women have given the President a nearly double-digit lead in many polls, including the September CBS News/New York Times Poll. Now, however, women support Mr. Obama by five points, 50 to 45 percent (down from 12 points last month); the race is even among men - tied at 47 percent.

Some vote patterns from the 2008 election seem to be holding steady: Romney has a 14-point lead among white voters, 54 to 40 percent, while Mr. Obama is the choice of more than nine in ten African-American voters.

Each candidate gets strong support from their respective political parties and the president has an edge among independents, 46 to 42 percent

Polls are starting to converge with the exception of Gallup. Ras will join in soon because he has a rep to uphold and seems to get his act together in the final stretch for show.

Sorry but if Romney was having a surge it sure is taking it's time.

While this poll seems to confirm that Obama's lead among women has narrowed from where it was before the first debate, it shows higher numbers for him among African Americans, Independents, Seniors and Whites than is the case in other recent polls.

I skimmed through it and saw "registered voters" two questions above the horserace question. Next time, I'll read the question itself

Obama will inevitably win anyway.

I'd say that the polls a day or two before the election will be more accurate.

From Kos: CBS's new poll has Obama up 48-46 with LV's, but look at the LV screen. From 1136 RV's to 790 LV's, that's a turnout of just less than 70%, when as many as 90% of RV's are expected to vote (almost 90% in 2008). I don't see the RV numbers, but I would bet many more Obama voters don't get through the screen than Romney voters.

There is no way turnout is 70%. If there is a 2 point lead in this poll with this LV screen, Obama is doing pretty good.

President Obama should be up double digits. I'm 56 and this election has the clearest choice of good vs EVIL as we have ever seen.

WTF?
