Newsmax is weird.

I somehow ended up on their mailing list. I don't know how. I can only think that I signed up for something who then sold my e-mail address to a few publications. Anyway, I kept on the list because I thought, "what the hell?" and today opened my e-mail to see this headline:

Breaking from Newsmax.com

Quinnipiac Ohio: Obama Up by 5 as Women Shift; Sherrod Brown Leads by 9

Riding a wave of strong support among women, President Barack Obama holds a 50-45 percent lead over Republican Gov. Mitt Romney among likely voters in the crucial swing state of Ohio, according to a Quinnipiac University/CBS News poll released today. That’s half the 53-43 percent margin he held when Quinnipiac/CBS News/The New York Times surveyed Buckeye likely voters September 26.

This latest Quinnipiac/CBS survey shows a wide gender gap as President Obama leads 55 – 40 percent among women while Gov. Romney leads 51 – 44 percent among men. Whites back the Republican 51 – 44 percent while blacks go Democratic 91 – 5 percent. Voters with college degrees are divided with 49 percent for Romney and 47 percent for Obama. Voters without degrees back Obama 52 – 43 percent.

Just a random poll that doesn't show Romney leading ... in fact, down by a sizable margin ... and they're pushing it. Newsmax. Why?

I also noticed Newsmax polls have favored Obama ... especially their Florida tracking poll. A lot, and I mean a lot, of Republicans read Newsmax. I wonder if this is going to dispirit them?

thing. They've had pro-Obama numbers lately and I don't get it. They are supposed to be wingnut. Very weird... like my thread from last night said, the freerepublic seems subdued (relatively speaking) and they are worried. Now I am wondering just how accurate this Romney 'surge' really is. Especially if a lot of them plan to vote on election day. The enthusiasm goes both ways and I wonder if a lot of them will just say screw it and stay home. Freerepublic isn't showing the kind of rabid frothing they normally display.

I wonder if it is to show that all those "evil" brown, black and female voters are interfering with the "gawd designated" voters (straight white men of property).....a way to gin up support for violence against us "evil" voters, and the loss of suffrage for those groups

They try to sensationalize headlines to get more pageviews to drive add revenue. They just take a press release or other 3rd party prepared material, add a little fluff and slap an attention grabbing headline on it. They are devoid of original research or content.

who subscribed - on the company's dime - to the print version of NewsMux - and proudly made this dreck readily available in the reception area outside his office...but that's not the worst of it. He held a weekly staff meeting (which I called 'the staff infection') where he would hold forth with the most wingnutty, racist diatribes imaginable. It was definitely a factor in my decision to leave the company.

And perhaps they had an agreement with the pollster that they had to release the numbers no matter what.

Maybe they figure that publishing this kind of stuff will keep right-wing enthusiasm/rage/desperation at critical levels. Or maybe they just can't justify throwing away all the money they're spending on Zogby. Either way, Zogby is redeeming himself
