The FBI asked the US State Department to stop investigating Hillary Clinton's emails

"WASHINGTON (Reuters) — The U.S. State Department has suspended an internal review of whether classified information was properly handled in former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's emails at the request of the FBI, a spokeswoman said on Friday.

Clinton, the front-runner in the race for the Democratic Party nomination in the Nov. 8 presidential election, has apologized for using a private email server for official business while in office from 2009 to 2013 and said she did nothing wrong. The FBI is investigating the arrangement.

On Jan. 29, the State Department said 22 emails sent or received by Clinton had been upgraded to top secret at U.S. intelligence agency's request and would not be made public as part of the release of thousands of Clinton's emails. It said that none of the emails was marked classified when sent.

At the time, the department also said it would conduct an internal review on whether the information in the emails was classified at the time it passed through Clinton's private clintonemail.com account run on a server in her New York home.

The department consulted the FBI about this in February, and in March the law enforcement agency asked the State Department to halt its inquiry.

"The FBI communicated to us that we should follow our standard practice, which is to put our internal review on hold while there is an ongoing law enforcement investigation," State Department spokeswoman Elizabeth Trudeau told reporters."

So it turns out it was the FBI that asked the State Department to halt it's investigation.

That's the same line the Hillary camp has used and we now know that wasn't exactly true. They weren't "marked" classified because we know on at least one occasion, Hillary directed an aide to remove "identifying headers" and send "unsecured."

If a communication contains classified information, employees are supposed to recognize that and act accordingly.

Whether or not it's been marked "at the time" does not make it more or less sensitive and, in effect, of classified nature.

This is just they type of deception that we see too often, and the fact that the state department was engaging in the same form of word play may have contributed to the decision by the FBI to have them knock it off.

Clinton, her aides, and the department itself are all under investigation.

Eventually the whole thing is going to go the way of that ultimatum they gave Apple about the iPhone password and they don't want the State Department to spoil their fun while it lasts. IOW they don't want Clinton exonerated by the State investigation.

Allowing criminal investigation precedence is pretty standard.

This criminal investigation seems to be nearing it's end, so there is hope it won't be available to trouble the general election

Personally, I think that's why Sanders is getting pressure to drop out before any FBI announcement.

They think if she's the nominee, it will greatly lessen the chance of an indictment.

Jim Webb would have been HOUNDED out of the race by now with the words - FBI investigation of their actions or the actions of their staff.

Who is kidding who.

It is ONLY because she is HRC that she has not had to deal with pressure to withdraw.

The Democratic Party establishment are scared of the Clintons retribution...this is incredible to me that she might be nominated and either she, or her staff could be indicted. And people are expected to canvas for her under these circumstances. Incredible.

I won't be door knocking. Taking a cold hard look at whther I can even vote for her if she is indicted.

Because it is not in her nature to take herslef out of the race even if indicted.

She brought this on herself: don't like FOIA HRC? Too F***ing BAD. It is our right to know what is done in our name.

So they are saying that this is just what is supposed to be done. So the SD should have held off a while back but didn't, for some reason. "we should follow our standard practice" - they knew what to do, but didn't. Why?
