Bernie Sanders Is Gaining on Hillary Clinton in Her Own Backyard

Bernie Sanders won his home state of Vermont with a whopping 86 percent of the vote. Hillary Clinton, it seems, will have no such luck on her home turf.

Sanders is slowly gaining on Clinton in New York ahead of the April 19 primary. Clinton now leads Sanders by 12 points in New York's Democratic primary, according to a Quinnipiac Poll released Thursday. A poll in February showed Sanders 21 points behind Clinton in New York, and another in March showed him 48 points behind.

Sanders' growing support in New York is not altogether surprising. Born and raised in Brooklyn, the Vermont senator can also claim ties to the state. More important, the political climate in New York is favorable to Sanders. Areas of western New York resemble demographically the Midwestern states where Sanders has performed relatively well.

I would say to be wary of a replay of the election day shenanigans in the AZ primary. If you are in New York, check your voter registration.

1. Surely Sanders, being born and raised in NY, should be the prohibitive favorite there? (nt)

2. new narrative

...thought this was his hometown state.

+4 is the number he needs out of NY, especially with Wisconsin so close.

4. Considering your side has given Bernie 3 different "Back yards"

Let's call it what it is and that they both have appeal in the state from their experiences.

But I disagree on WI. I do not think Wisconsin is close, nor do I think it will be within 10.

10. They gave

NH, Vermont, Illinois and now NY. So 4 i guess.

And when he lost MA it was shameful because he's so close to there.

5. I was surprised to learn today that she will be campaigning in New York

I figured she would skip it out of fear that campaigning in the state she represented in the Senate would make her look desperate.

7. She's doing the No We Can't Tour through NY State

Because you know, Bernies College Plan requires the State Governors to finance a portion of, and of course they will never do that...even if other states do. They wouldn't care about "competing" against those states for College students. They'd keep their state colleges EXPENSIVE. Mark Hillary's words, that's exactly what they would do.

She says, you have to read the "fine print"

6. Ahem. NEW YORK IS NOT CLINTON'S BACKYARD.

Except maybe in the sense that Latin America is the "backyard" for U.S. imperialism.

This one-time Carpetbagger for Senate voter is not alone among millions who cannot tolerate the Clinton politics or their fakey-fake personas.

There is actually time enough to campaign in New York. People already know or will come to know the candidates. Sanders is going to win.
