2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI've had enough of AmeriCANTS! I'm ready for more AmeriCANS!
I'd rather my representatives try and fail then tell me from the get go that we can't. As a business owner, if you have a propensity to say we can't, I just won't hire you...or I'll fire you.
I've been for the most part happy with Obama. But when he removed single payer/UHC from his ACA plan, he became an AmeriCANT. We want you to try. When you don't even try, the slog of dragging Regressives into the future becomes exponentially harder. Besides...who ...other than our current democratic leadership says we can't before we even sit down for negotiations? No one. Absolutely no one gives up what they want most before negotiations begin. God bless the job Obama has done. But even he eventually succumbed to the AmeriCANTS...buying into the speech of milquetoast losers.
I'm done with AmeriCANTS.
To paraphrase Henry Ford:
Whether you believe you can or you believe you cannot...you are correct.
Now bring me your greatest AmeriCANS. I don't care what size or shape they come in. I'll passionately vote for them.

(8,524 posts)Henry Ford was a Nazi sympaythizer who, with GWB'S grandfather, plotted to kill FDR. I wouldn't quote him.
I am more worried about politicians who will promise anything to get their foot in the door; especially those who have a 30 plus year history of not being able to deliver.

If you believe you can't do something...you can be assured that you will never accomplish that task.

(10,472 posts)Right up there with the "these colors don't run" faux-patriotism of the Bush voters. Ick.
You're also quoting Henry Ford, a noted Nazi sympathizer.

(3,014 posts)so what? The folks that get pissed at comments about being a doer...are usually those that can't.

(3,014 posts)I just divorced an AmeriCANT. It's exhausting living with someone who constantly falls back on everything you can't do. Emotional boat anchors. Being relieved of one in your life is like be shot out of a slingshot. It's amazing what you can achieve when you don't have that CANTer putting on the parking brake every time you believe you can.

(9,527 posts)Personally I don't think Sanders has much of one. The math behind his proposals is suspect and I don't think his plan to have supporters protest is going to work.
I'll vote for Sanders if he manages to win, but he doesn't inspire any confidence in me that he has has a realistic plan to move towards his goals.

(93,871 posts)BUT, being an AmeriCAN requires more than just yelling "we CAN!!!". Explain to us all HOW you CAN implement all the things Bernie Sanders has promised. What policies will you get past the Republican House? What will you do if they don't?

(3,014 posts)that I have no problem with failure...as long as there is an attempt.
I do, however, have a problem with people that just say they can't. Not gonna try. Can't do it. So we shouldn't even try.
At least with an attempt and a failure, in this instance, we can all see where/who is the roadblock. Where we need to focus to clear the obstructions that keep these issues from passing.
Because trust me...all the things that Bernie speaks of are very much doable. But nobody supporting these issues believes getting these things is going to be easy. Everyone I've talked to realizes it's going to be hard work. But the one way you can insure will exponentially increase the time before we see these things implemented, is to not try.
Fear of failure? None here. Just keep fucking that chicken.
