19. What would be the point of having a debate in NY AFTER the primary?

She wanted a debate in New Hampshire prior to their primary and she got it.

Bernie also asked for a debate in Michigan, at first she turned it down but then said yes but only if it was held in Flint.

She got that.

Debates are held in a specific place at a specific time to address, not only national and global issues, but local ones, as well.

Holding a debate in NY AFTER the primary, would shut out any meaningful dialogue about issues important to those who live in NY.

She is a coward and a bully.

The agreement for the NH debate almost fell apart when Hillary refused to a NY debate. It was tabled. It was never that Bernie refused a PA debate. NY was the issue. Bernie wanted it, Hillary didn't.

The agreement was NH, then MI with April and May tbd. Hillary didn't think NY would matter. She expected to have it put away by then.

61. If Bernie is able climb the steep in NY and achieve only a "virtual tie" in NY

He can practically kiss the nomination good bye. New York is a delegate rich state and he is in nearly identical positions in Connected, Delaware and Maryland. NY alone has 291 delegates and the four states together have 510.

Bernie has win big in each of the remaining 18 states, most of which are far smaller than these four, to draw even on pledged delegates. Catching up with Clinton and drawing even in each of these 4 states would be a very steep mountain. And then he would have to have huge wins each of the remaining states to make up for the opportunity missed. Right now Bernie is ahead in the polls in only one those remaining states and close in one more.

56. It's not cowardliness, it's smart politics

Stupid politics would be, "Oh sure, we can debate in NY even though I am over 20 points ahead in the latest NY polls".

Why in the heck would Hillary give Bernie any opportunity to try to catch up on the off chance that he would do well instead of spending the entire debate talking about variations on the theme, "90% of the new wealth in this country is going to the top 1%".

Hillary's campaign figures that if Bernie wants to reach more people in NY let him spend your money on advertising instead of giving him free air time.

And let his supporters be reduced to calling Hillary a "coward" on a website that maybe a few thousand people read, the vast majority of which have already chosen their candidate. Sad really; those taunts are falling on deaf ears.

Let me guess at some of the others:

We know you use, "it's cowardly to refuse to debate"

And, "that's the one issue lie"

Others likely to be in your vocabulary:

"Super delegates are undemocratic"

"the latest meme"

"I have to vote my progressive principles"

"nobody tells me how to vote"

"It's a DNC conspiracy"

"She's a Republican"

"closed primaries are undemocratic"

37. Gotta wonder how her campaign life is - spend all her free time assuring the 1% that she has it in

the bag, worrying about getting indicted during her campaign, worry about a candidate who is the platform she is trying to fake run on, catching fire and taking off with the people - which he just proved he can, keep all the lies straight and try not to flip flop during debates, worry about all the previous scandals coming right back and the new ones breaking... worrying about getting exposed.

48. I actually think you and your candidate sound more desperate on this

...everyone knows you need a Hail Mary at this point.

I think Sanders would get creamed in a NY debate with Hillary. Maybe they'll eventually agree to do one featuring his favorite subject...foreign policy.

52. Or maybe it proves she is a good politician.

Calculating the odds, weighing the risk against the reward, checking which way the winds of opinion are blowing, etc. This is what we have come to expect in a president. We sure liked it when her husband did it.

78. More like blowing smoke. Her people's response to the debate request wasn't yes or no. It was

"Forget about the debate, we want to focus the media on these other issues we have with you. If you agree to these other things (I.e, not bringing up THE FACTS), we might give you what you want."

Is her cast ironess withstood hours of Republican browbeating and make THEM sweat...

But she doesn't want to face the "tone"....and CERTAINLY not in New York...of one single man that has better ideas and hopes for America.

Advantage: Sanders

59. So refusing to honor agreements is a "screaming piece of evidence"

of unfitness for office and proof that a campaign is imploding at a fast rate?

So when Bernie refuses to raise funds for down ticket candidates, and refused to debate in Flint and refuses to debate in PA, this according to you is a "screaming piece of evidence" of Bernie's unfitness for any office, that his campaign is imploding at an accelerated rate of decay? I guess that makes sense, he needs to keep all that money he's bragging about raising for himself, and forget honoring agreements he made, and lying vilely and personally about his opponent.

Yes, it does actually look like it's splintering apart now, poor Bernie, even his supporters can see it, even if they can't quite accept it yet.

71. Clear and obvious desperation on Sanders' part. He NEEDS a debate, and she does't.

It's that simple. And she's not obligated to give him a debate in NY just because he demands it.

There's no other reason to have a debate than to give Sanders free airtime in an expensive media market, and we all know it. Let's stop pretending otherwise.

72. Why did she want so many debates in 2008?

http://www.alternet.org/news-amp-politics/clinton-called-more-debates-2008-now-shes-dodging-them

Sen. Hillary Clinton called for a Lincoln-Douglas-style debate with no moderator against her rival, Sen. Barack Obama, who says no more debates are needed before the May primaries. [] "I'm offering Sen. Obama a chance to debate me one-on-one, no moderators. ... Just the two of us going for 90 minutes, asking and answering questions; we'll set whatever rules seem fair," she said.

"I think that it would give the people of Indiana and I assume a few Americans might tune in because nearly 11 million watched the Philadelphia debate. And I think they would love seeing t hat kind of debate and discussion. Remember, that's what happened during the Lincoln-Douglas debates," she added.

Clinton campaign manager Maggie Williams sent a letter to Obama campaign manager David Plouffe on Saturday asking for another debate. "I have no doubt that Sen. Obama, who hails from that great state, understands how valuable and vital these national conversations were to the heart of America. ... If we debate, Americans will come," Williams wrote.

As Obama noted in his response to the Clinton campaign, the Democrats had 21 debates by that point, which he used to justify not having another debate until the next primary. This time, the Democrats have had zero debates, and Clinton apparently does not want more than the six scheduled to start in October.

74. Because she was in the same losing position that Sanders is in now. Duh.

You'd think that the Sanders campaign would be able to learn from 2008 and not repeat her mistakes from then, but nope, you'd be wrong.

75. Hmm...

No, this is just another flip-flop ........... in 2008 she thinks 'the people' need to hear candidates' views. In 2016 they don't - why is that?

Her 'mistake' was voting for (and pushing) the IWR, remember?

80. Not my candidate, I'm just an interested observer. But it's FACT that people choosing to vote for

a leader should have every opportunity to listen to them and decide based on what they hear. She wanted this, and said the people were owed it.

Why are they not, now??

One vote from 12 years ago has absolutely nothing to do with it.
