My 89 year old great uncle says our democracy is a sham.

Uncle 'Ted' worked in Washington D.C. in intelligence for decades; he was privy to things that he can't discuss to this day. But every now and then he speaks up.

In talking with him about this current election yesterday, he says there really is no difference between the Democratic and Republican parties. It's all about class - the Clintons and the Bushes are bosom buddies and part of the 1% elite, to whom party identification really doesn't matter. Drumpf is part of the gang too, but they're nervous about him because he doesn't like to follow their rules.

Their goal for every election is to get someone in there from either party who will continue to help them and their friends consolidate power and wealth. Someone who will play along, and there are plenty of politicians eager to be accepted by them. There is no "American People" in this political theater; we really don't matter to them at all, except as commodities in their deals.

He also says that Bernie is trying to 'beat' them on behalf of all of US by working within it (as a Democrat), and is doing surprisingly well in spite of all the kitchen sinks being thrown at him and the underhanded vote rigging.

He believes that if everything was fair and above-board, Bernie would have won the nomination by now.

My uncle may be called a nutty old man by some, but he's seen a lot and is sharp as a tack. What he says is worth considering, and probably the truth.

5. My dad, 94, said in 2003, "The United States is over."

He didn't think the country would survive the Invasion of Iraq. He may have been right. He thought Reagan pushed the country down the trail to oblivion, and we're still on that trail. And this from a WWII Marine.

I think only Bernie can change the track we've been on.

6. Consider that Ted Cruz's wife works for Goldman Sachs and you see the range of choice

they want us to have.

Part of the formula seems to be that the President should have some kind of baggage that keeps them from being too strong. No more Kennedys, always someone who splits the populace deeply and in a polarizing way while not really offering much choice about the business of government.
