2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumAbout us privileged and selfish 'principle voters'
You Hillary supporters love guilting and shaming us by conjuring images of groups we'll be hurting if we don't vote for her. Your concern would carry more weight if you gave a shit about the millions of innocents, hawkish american presidents kill in our military interventions and adventures. I proudly view my "selfish" no-vote for Hillary, as a generous yes-vote for humankind.

But more important is that our people need to learn it. When the majority of the country supports going to war we get the outcome we got with Iraq and the resulting aftermath.
We need to change the minds of our people then our leaders will follow.

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/nurses-give-nod-to-nader/
(2000):
"The Green Party presidential hopeful picked up the endorsement of a big nurses' union based in California, a state where his candidacy might have a significant impact on the general election.
.............
Accepting the endorsement in Washington, Nader said traditional Democrats should welcome the prospect of the Green campaign helping to defeat Al Gore in November.
"If I was a dyed-in-the-wool Democrat, I'd be happy because that would give the Democratic Party a four-year cold shower for reconsidering their historical traditions at its highest levels and why it has abandoned these traditions," Nader said.
Some Democrats fear in a close race between Gore and Republican George W. Bush, Nader could tip the balance in the direction of the Texas governor....."
_____________________________
Btw, you forgot Citizens United and the consequences of relentless climate denial by the Bush Administration. Those were also some of the "cold shower" outcomes that Ralph, by his own brag, treated us all to.

(34,845 posts)Principles and nothing else is no way to go through life. One's principles should be balanced by what the majority of voters have decided is better for the 'village' we all inhabit. Right now, the majority of Democratic primary voters have chosen Clinton.
That should be at least a data point in your considerations.

(22,342 posts)Hope you can explain your "principles" just as well to women, minorities and the poor here in the US if, G*d forbid, Trump or Cruz becomes POTUS.
FYG, I'm a Bernie Sanders supporter. However, while I vote progressive in the primaries,
I vote Democrat in the general election.
BTW, Sanders has also reiterated that if Hillary wins the nomination,he will support her in every way in the general election. He knows that too much is at stake in 2016 for the Democratic vote to splinter up in November.

There's only 2 candidates who have climate change as a central part of their campaign, Bernie Sanders and Jill Stein. In 10 years as the first wave of catastrophic climate change starts really rolling across the planet, will you be proud to say you voted for Hillary because she's going to make small changes to the ACA?
Do you think the average 25 year old thinks that? In fact, I'd say they would argue they're actually the ones who are voting for your well being and future.
And they can live with themselves by saying they tried.
Hillary's environmental plan is completely inadequate. Tweaking isn't going to work anymore.

(31,935 posts)as she has been doing thus far, then we can remain principled and vote ,or not vote, for whichever pro-peace, pro-healthy environment, pro-civil rights, anti-TPP, anti Monsanto, anti Wall Street deregulation candidate we please, with a clear conscious. Team Hillary will have proven that they don't need pesky little things like *votes* to get what they want. Let them steal their way to the White House. She will always be viewed as illegitimate after her response to what happened in Arizona yesterday, and she obviously doesn't need or want any of our votes to achieve her agenda.

(5,198 posts)there are plenty of RW and Third Way representation in government, which is why we have endless wars, lax environmental laws, no labor laws left, and unregulated banks running the country. How many progressives are in government? How many representatives do the left get to have?
Without the progressive left this country will continue to slip towards a tyrannical police state, The two party system was meant to be a check and balance on private vs public interests, and with the RW in power there is no check on their abuse of power. These are the basics I am not sure many truly understand.

No thank you.
