Washington Post: Romney does not have a woman problem, at least not yet

In the wake of Mitt Romney’s comment in Tuesday night’s debate that he had requested ”binders full of women” to fill cabinet posts when he was governor of Massachusetts, Democrats quickly sought to seize on the remark as yet more evidence that the GOP nominee just doesn’t get it when it comes to female voters.

Conference calls were organized, tweets were, um, tweeted, and even President Obama made reference to the Romney “binder” comments during a Wednesday rally in Mt. Vernon, Iowa and then again today in Manchester, New Hampshire.

For all of the time and energy Democrats devoted to “binders” — and to the broader “war against women” allegedly being carried about by Republicans — there is little evidence in polling (at least not yet) that Romney is underperforming the gender gap that has been in place between the two parties since 1992.

They focused on women's issues instead of issues that are important to women. Democrats for a long time have treated women as a minority bloc. That's a mistake because its not the same dynamic as hispanics or blacks or homosexuals. Women are not a minority, they are the voting majority. But they do not vote in a bloc. Women do not think in a collective state. They are individuals.

Simply saying you put women on SCOTUS and favor abortion and contraception does nothing to gain Democrat votes they don't already have. Every woman in this country knows Democrats are pro-choice and Republicans are pro-life. That ain't no breaking news. That's not new information. So the lines were drawn on that issue decades ago! Why are we still trying to gain female votes from that issue? You won't gain any more votes from that.
But the big mistake is the Democrats have punted on several issues that women care about. K-12 education is probably the biggest one. Another is the environment. Why are we not talking about these things? What women really want is a bright future for the country and their children. That's the discussion they want to have. And they really are not getting that from either party.

Right now both parties are so consumed with trying to destroy their opponent that the biggest loser in this election is going to be the future. Because we are not talking about it.

and vote in ways that would surprise their male family members. My 89 year old mother has been doing it for decades. Rmoney has a problem with women, young and old. Bullying, macho behavior, condescension, disrespect for the President, entitlement, disengagement from the real world, a 70's view of rustling the bushes for women candidates, women get EXACTLY where he's coming from.

VP Candidate Paul Ryan 'Strong Arms' American Women
Says "Rape is just a Method of Conception"
Romney's VP pick, Paul Ryan, is the most radical candidate in 100 years. He co-sponsored the "legitimate/forcible rape" legislation and the "Personhood" bill that would treat killing a fertilized egg as homicide, and render many oral contraception as equivalent to homicide! Think of Ryan as and American Taliban morals officer.

I guess it's different if the woman is married...

It's a generational difference. And among women under 45 that are single, Repubs are not well liked.

"An analysis comparing the results of the 2008 election and the most recent Gallup surveys with data by demographer Wendell Cox shows a remarkable correlation between the states and regions with the highest proportion of childless women under 45 – the best indicator of offspring-free households — and the propensity to vote Democratic. Overall, the most child-free regions were nearly 85% more likely to vote for Obama in 2008. And according to the most recent Gallup survey, they are similarly inclined to vote Democratic today."http://www.forbes.com/sites/joelkotkin/2012/02/10/sex-singles-and-the-presidency/

With abortion rights and contraception, women under 45 just don't understand why they are even issues. Remember, those of us in our twenties and thirties were born AFTER Roe V Wade. I don't get the argument about Roe V Wade at all. To me, it is already settled much like Vietnam is accepted among us under 45 as a lost war. And contraception? There was never a time in my life as a teen in the early 90's until a thirty-something now that birth control was ever an issue. It was normal to have birth control in high school and no one cared.
