2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHead Clinton's latest meme off at the pass: Things Bernie Sanders is FOR.
Apparently, Hillary has a new meme: Bernie Sanders is against EVERYTHING and is nothing but a grumpy curmudgeon.
However, that's simply not so. I'll start and allow the rest of you to both state what he's for and how he'll pay for it and/or work to insure it happens:
Free Tuition at PUBLIC Colleges for Students who Make the Grade: A nickel tax on Wall Street Speculation.
Medicare-for-All: A rise in income taxes. Middle income taxes would rise about $500 on average, but the average family would save $4,500 in what they won't be paying in premiums and deductibles to for-profit health insurance companies.
Breaking Up Too Big To Fail Banks: Reinstatement of Glass-Steagall and Renewed Use of the Sherman Anti-Trust Act
There's a start... keep it going.

(27,247 posts)some people I knew translated "法人" ("houjin" as "legal person(s)". Curious about this odd English, I looked up this character combination myself and found that it actually means "corporation".

I was reading that on some earlier threads and was trying to think of ways to get that out.

(14,177 posts)That hit me like a ton of bricks and I was already very upset. In fact I might have been crying at the time because of the fall out from those terrible Nancy Reagan comments. I wasn't looking for this. But, now I am going to do everything I can to get the word out on this. I am a key board warrior and I will be a community activist on this issue.

(11,366 posts)I'll be more than happy to help you spread it.

(1,890 posts)Bernie is like the voters in Missouri, the "Show Me" state. He isn't like Hillary who leaps and then looks. He looks before he leaps. He expects those who are pushing trade deals to show him how it benefits workers. And seeing as how all of the trade deals since the Clinton administration have not protected workers your damn right he's going say no. I think the people of Missouri will appreciate a candidate like Bernie.

(1,019 posts)This leaves us with two problems.
One is unrealistic expectations. People who are voting for Sanders because they are enthusiastic about the idea of free college should know that even if his political revolution fully sweeps Washington, college tuition still isn't going to be eliminated unless governors and state senators can be convinced to raise higher education spending.
The other is selectivity. Sanders's plan does not truly deliver tuition-free college for the exact same reason that the Affordable Care Act does not truly deliver universal health care: path dependency and reliance on state government cooperation. If all 50 states had governments in place that wanted to achieve universal insurance coverage, then the Affordable Care Act creates a framework in which they could easily and affordably do so. Indeed, it provides much more of the necessary financial resources than does Sanders's College for All Act.
Who could have guessed that the details behind the vague "Free college for everyone" promise wouldn't add up to something viable? I mean, besides anyone who is not a 20-something stoner looking to get everything paid for by someone else.
Fawke Em
(11,366 posts)Which leads to another thing Bernie is for: masses of people turning out to vote for individuals who truly represent them.
That won't happen over night and no one claims it will.
But, if you'll give people something to vote for, they'll show up.
CalvinballPro
(1,019 posts)only people voting for a candidate who you think represents you. And frankly, it's rude and condescending for you to imply things like that.
This is the kind of mindless purity test that shrinks a coalition into a cult.

She professed to have know idea, since he is reflexively opposed to them before even knowing what they look like or have been fully negotiated and worked out.
Which seems true.
ANd stupid of Sanders.
Sherod Brown, basically said the same thing about Sanders on the Chris Hayes show, even though he too has been against these trade deals and stands on the same side as Sanders on them.
