He actually used her releasing the emails as part of the explanation for not releasing the transcripts! Talk about clutching at straws...

You should. Using her "transparency" about other things--including the emails!--as some kind of rationale to draw the line at releasing the transcripts was priceless.

and Trump releases any transcripts he has.... (there probably aren't any)

What will her excuse be then?

That she still wants Carson and Cruz to release tapes?

That every Republican in the world needs to release tapes.

She is slimy!

If it gets down to Trump and Cruz, and they both release--or even merely deny having any--transcripts, and Bernie has none, what excuse will she fall back on then? Or even assuming that we're down to Trump and Clinton in the general, how does she combat Trump asking her to release the transcripts? She's just kicking the can down the road, she has no good answer.

And you're right, Trump probably has no transcripts. Even if he gives high priced paid speeches to groups that would be seen as powerful special interests, we already know he speaks off the cuff (have we ever seen him give a prepared speech?), so it's very likely that nothing was pre-written; and as for the typical Q&A that follows a speech, I doubt he would have anyone bother transcribing it. In a way, I'm not sure what benefit it served that Hillary wanted her appearances transcribed. I suppose for posterity, maybe as source material for a future book, something like that.

Maybe she should have said that the transcripts were on the server, and the server's been wiped.

For Hillary, this strikes me as putting self over party. By withholding the transcripts now to help assure that she gets the nomination, she is likely creating a bigger issue that can cost her support in the general (whether she ultiately releases them or not).

ETA: Her other big problem here is that probably everyone else can plausibly deny that they have any transcripts even if they do. Hillary has the issue where her contracts specified that there would be transcripts, and that she would be given sole possession of them, which is why she couldn't deny having them in the first place. Unless someone else has similar documented proof of transcripts, it may be a non-issue for them.
