2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI'd enthusiastically support virtually any Democrat who runs against Trump
I really don't have any more issue differences with Bernie than I do Hillary, the differences just are in different areas, but on balance, I like them both equally.
If I had to vote for Biden, or Gore, or Warren, or Jackie Speier, I would do that too.
I don't feel I'm voting for the lesser of two evils, I see many good things in voting for any of the names I listed above and virtually any possible nominee Democrats could put up in the next decade.
But it really does come back to beating Trump at this point.
Even if I had no other reason for voting, voting to stop a dangerous bigot, there's no shame in that.

Are you really okay with all these things that the Clintons advocate?
I am not and never will be.

(12,769 posts)I am sure they have other differences too. I would never vote for either one of them. Nor, will I vote for Hillary.

(18,628 posts)It's better to shitcan your vote and spend the next four years endlessly complaining about how the country is going to hell on a rocket sled under a Republican White House than to do something to help prevent that.
I wonder if there's a bumper sticker that says: "Don't blame me, I don't vote".

(53,955 posts)Well, I may not be "enthusiastic" about some, but I will support anyone running against Trump. Those who claim they will not vote for Sanders/Clinton versus Trump are almost as bad as those who willingly vote for Trump. Whereas some are claiming they will never vote for "X" if s/he is the democratic nominee, I will forever see them as enemies to GLBT issues, choice, and a variety of other liberal issues and will never want to hear them crow about how they are champions for the oppressed.

(14,918 posts)I cannot imagine letting Trump to be elected by failing to unite behind the Democratic candidate in the general election, just for the smug "I told you so" satisfaction of rigid ideological purity. It reminds me of a very ugly brand of Fundamentalist self-righteousness that would be glad to send everyone else to hell.

(841 posts). . . Bernie is the only Democrat that has a damn good likelihood of beating Trump because he does NOT represent the Establishment. Trump will tear Hillary apart.

(46,192 posts)while i don't discount his chances of winning, i do think if he mounted the right campaign, he could win.
that said, i think there are more paths to a win for Hillary and her campaign than for his.

(25,473 posts)Both candidates have strengths and weaknesses of course. I saw a story on ABC's Nightline today about that American astronaut who spent a year in space. His return to Earth was compared to the astronaut in "Planet of the Apes" -- the scene at the end where Charlton Heston screams when he realizes what happened while he was away -- how you'd feel if you came back and found out that Trump is the front runner for President. Funny!
I read too much GDP tonight and think I'll have trouble getting to sleep. Have to check under the bed and in the closet, leave a nightlite on. Scared of the Hillary Monster.
