TIPP Tracking Poll-Obama (D) 46% Romney ($) 46%

In a further sign of a tight presidential race, the results remained unchanged in our most recent sounding of likely voters. The bounce that took place immediately after Romney's strong performance in the debate with Obama seems to have diminished. There have been no major shifts among demographic groups with one big exception. Among independents, who make up about 28% of all voters, Romney's edge is down to 8 points from 20 points just four days earlier.

I think Clinton won pluralities in 92 and 96.*

I think Carter and Mondale got around 35% or 36% and Kerry and Dukakis got around 41% and 40%. The ironic thing is the president can do a tad bit worse than both Kerry and Dukakis and still win because of demographic shifts.

* I did that from memory.

Even white Southerners like Bill Clinton couldn't win the white vote. Ever since the passage of the Civil Rights Act, a lot of white voters think that the Democratic Party is an anti-white party.

Of course the white vote was split three ways instead of two.

needs to get more than 36% of the white vote. If he can get it to 39 or 40 he will win. He also needs to do better with ages 45-64. I note that seniors are getting closer--the Romney lead has dwindled, but it's 45-64 year olds who will be most effected by the Ryan Medicare voucher plan and they should be targeted with this.

about women. Period. Another reason why the first debate wasn't so hot, no mention of women's healthcare issues. If he'd a spent just a teeeeny little bit of time on just that topic alone I think it would have done some good. But what's done is done. It's all about Tuesday. And Ohio.

They are probably counting on the non-white vote to be the same percentage of the electorate as 2008.

Nice to see a positive one! And nice to see the indy numbers drop back.

Does Nate use this one in the average?

(I almost feel we're doing the reverse "And that's good news for John McCain!" yhis year. Even when we get bad news, I brace for the trolls and their "That's bad news for President Obama!" take on things!)

So, Obama is slightly ahead. I agree this is a tie, but if it is good to see, particularly considering the RW bias of this poll.

Some people re-post the same polls, not realizing they've already been posted, so I'm just wondering.

Yesterday Obama moved up to a 0.7% lead in TIPP, so I'm assuming this is yesterday's number, not today's.

Hopefully today's will go up further.

Independant vote has switched so drastically with each poll. People who are not independants sometimes just say they are, but most probally lean a certain way.
