Some states matter more than others? Fine, we should be looking at swing states then

After all, if red states are going to stay red regardless of our candidate, we can make exactly the same assumption about blue states, right? That leaves the purples.

There's general agreement that at least seven states, worth a collective 85 electoral votes, start off as tossups for the general election: Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire, Ohio and Virginia.

So Bernie had Colorado and New Hampshire in his pocket

Hillary has Iowa, Nevada and Virginia. And there isn't a single person who can argue that she isn't going to win by double digits in Florida. But even without Florida, Hillary leads the purple states delegate count 137-116.

That leaves Ohio as the swing swing state. And right now it is projecting heavily for Clinton. Of course, it doesn't matter, because she'll win the swing state primaries 4-3 even if Bernie pulls off an Ohio miracle! And the delegate race, too, as Florida is the richest state there, by far!

There it is, though. Since all other states are safely aligned one way or another, we should only be counting the votes of who people want in the states that can win or lose us the presidency. And Hillary is going to win the Purple States Primary handily. The matter is settled.

Or we can all admit that trying to assert one kind of state is more important than another kind of state during primary season in anything other than delegate count is nothing but a fucking joke.

NV and VA are no longer swing states in presidential elections. Both are now blue states. LonePirate Mar 2016 #3

I realize that won't happen, but at least individuals on DU don't have to add to the din.

From the people I know, most Clinton votes are not enthusiastic "Hillary or Bust" but rather "I really like Bernie but I'm not sure how he'd do in the General Election."

IF the primary is being declared over at this stage, that creates a self fulfilling prophecy. Pepole who might support Bernie will either be enervated into staying home, or reluctantly pulling the lever for Clinton.

They are both becoming bluer and should no longer be called swing states. Electing Republicans in off years does not make them swing states in presidential elections. CO is probably on the verge of losing its swing status in presidential elections, if it hasn't already lost it.
