Mark Halperin's got a scoop from Chicago HQ..and it's GOOD news

MARK HALPERIN: Well, Andrea, I literally came straight here from the headquarters where I sat down with some of the top officials on the campaign and talked through where we are today. And, I want to state this carefully, and factually. They said, in a response to a direct question, they feel just as good about where they are today as they did two weeks ago. They said that while there is clearly public polling that shows some change, they don’t see any fundamental change in the race whatsoever. That, in the battleground states, they’ve got a bigger gender gap than they do nationally. That, in the battleground states, they’ve won the voter registration war, state-by-state, and they still feel that they, while they know the President’s debate performance wasn’t what they wanted it to be, they still feel very much in control of this race. It’ll be tight. They say they’re not taking it for granted. But, if you took them at face value, they say no meaningful change based on the result of the debate.

Halperin is that romney's his guy.

He's the one who called Pres Obama "a dick" on morning joe's. Do not remember why he thought he needed to say that..

He clearly wants to be the only media guy in the room that was "right" all along...

Frankly, I don't think he would come out with this unless he was pretty certain of its reliability...

Seriously...don't 100% of campaign officials say that when talking to the press? And, do you know what? 50% of the time, they wind up wrong.

OTOH, fluffing Halperin with a "scoop" might be a good way to get him to cut you a break in reporting at a crucial point in the campaign.

One decent debate performance can't possibly change the dynamics of a race developed over the past several months. There are deep and serious problems with the candidate Romney. Those just dont go away after one night of good lying.

The Obama people are smart, they know the national polls are meaningless and only indicated popular vote margins.

Its all about the electoral and no matter how good Romney looks now, his path to 270 is still daunting.

Now OTOH, we may have lost the landslide I think Obama needed to demand a mandate.

BARELY WINNING WILL NOT BE GOOD ENOUGH.

Look at how they acted after all the goodwill he had in 2008. You think they'll be any better if he scrapes by?

Bush claimed he had one and that he was going to "spend his capital that he earned" but his SS-privatization plans were dead on arrival.

Never underestimate the ability of Congress to screw up the well-laid plans of a president.

There's no news here and Nate Silver has Florida and North Carolina going to Romney now.

It still looks good for Obama electoral votes-wise, but the trend is disturbing.
