2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumJust back from my precinct caucus...
There ended up being a total of 10 delegates from my precinct. The split was 6-4 for Senator Sanders. My wife and I will be attending the County Convention and will likely attend state. If we're lucky we can make it all the way to the National Convention in Philadelphia. The lines were very long and people seemed very motivated. I'm happy to say that all present agreed they will support either Democratic candidate regardless of who wins. None of the immature nonsense I've seen from people on this board saying they will not vote if their candidate doesn't win. If my caucus was any reflection -- not just my precinct -- then this is going to be a close one, folks. Hold onto your seats!

(12,081 posts)immature for a person to say they won't vote for the nominee if their candidate doesn't win. As we have seen from both parties dirty campaign tricks, neither party is really interested in democracy. A victory by any means necessary. A desire for power and money are what the parties are interested in. I had already left the party due to the fact that the party doesn't seem to stand for the ideals they used to. I watched my son suffer under Obama's education policy. It was then that I switched from being a Democrat to being an Independent. The dirty campaign tricks only confirm that I made the right decision to leave the party.

(704 posts)I will.
But she won't get the energy and ground support and financial support from them they gave to Bernie. That won't happen. She'll have to do it with her machine. And maybe that's enough.
I hope it is--because I don't want any of the Republicans either.
But for now--I'm not giving up. I'm still with Bernie until he's out.

(10,266 posts)If it's an about-even split going into the convention, it won't be brokered, but I would look for Sanders to demand a few policy promises from Clinton...ABSOLUTELY he should demand a no-bullshit Election reform bill (election day as a national holiday, and across the board public funding of elections). Even if that's ALL we get, those are the keys to the kingdom, because everything after that is Popular Will (which next time, won't be overpowered by filthy Goldman money).
That, plus tuituon-free Public College and we can start unbrainwashing enough of the electorate to pull 51% in off year contests.
That's most of what we need to keep the sellouts out of DC.

(7,480 posts)The precinct chair didn't allow some people who showed up after we hard started the process to declare their preference. Three people showed up late because they were in line. Whereas we should have had 67 people, we only did 64. She was for Sanders so I was a little surprised she wouldn't let those folks in, but in all fairness, she hadn't run a caucus before so I gave her guidance. I didn't want to correct her on that issue though.

Democrats are a big tent party. We held up proceedings about 20 minutes, until all the new registrations could come in and participate. Once settled, we took head counts, listened to the candidate statements, split into our groups, tallied our votes, listened to the results. Cheered for the huge turnout before and afterwards. And it was a very positive, open experience.

(22,665 posts)There were two precincts sharing the school cafeteria where I was at today. It turned out the delegates from one were 4 -2 in favor of Hillary and in ours, it was 5 - 4 in favor of Hillary. One delegate was given up by HRC's side due to rounding (5.42 in HRC's favor, thus rounded down). Otherwise both precincts were in support of Hillary 2 -1 over Sanders.
No funny business. No dissenting opinions of foul play. The counting was open and there was no dispute as to the results. It was a positive experience, one where both sides came together afterwards to help clean up.
Great job today, NV Democrats!

(34 posts)Just wondering how many voters showed up to caucus in your precinct. Ours had only 36 registered voters and it broke 26 for Hillary (7 delegates) to 10 voters for Bernie (3 delegates). I am new to caucusing and I was totally shocked by the poor turnout; I definitely prefer primaries.
