I think it's obvious that many here at DU thinks that their views represent the Democratic Party

.... that the membership thinks this? It's obviously a sight for political junkies. Who has expressed a different opinion?

We will see how it goes with voters in Democratic primaries and caucuses, and the population at large. It's always easy to formulate generalizations on the basis of one's own personal daily observations and pretend one has the pulse of the nation better than everyone else. We will see, there are actual elections as opposed to the polls that the local political junkies cite every hour.

I meet and talk with a diverse set of people who are more completely described as Americans than Democrats - for some reason parties are not particularly liked nowadays, including by registered members - and they are NOT generally happy with the economy, or the state of politics, or the power of billionaires and corporations, or the role of money in politics, or their perception of corruption in the system, from the top down. If the Democratic party because of its structures and methods of exclusion chooses not to give them a candidate who speaks to these issues, but instead gives them the very epitome of the same old shit politics in dynastic form, watch out. Because the Republicans may give them a candidate who appears to speak to these issues.

DU doesn't reflect the views of the people I run across in real life, even among the people who a very civically and politically active.

And if you think DU is singular, think again. Not to mention that personal anecdotes are notoriously weak evidence.

I'm unsuccessfully trying to avoid a "duh".
But my goodness, this is a political board for political junkies. I've been out canvassing for the past three weeks, and yeah, most people are only somewhat aware of what we on DU are passionate about. So should we be less passionate because they're not?
What is your point?
Perhaps we can agree that, generally, the populace should be more aware and better informed, but that doesn't mean we on DU should be less so.

I agree, it would be nice if we all helped increase voter turnout, if that is what you're advocating.

But just to be clear, what is your point??

they have their finger on the nation's pulse and that the rest of us live under a rock somewhere. Obviously if you are a Bernie supporter you don't get as many people trying to tell you on a daily basis how we too would be a Bernie supporter if we knew what they knew, or they are constantly reminding us how corrupt the Clintons are, and what a visionary Bernie is and has always been.

Two I don't give a hoot about whether or not my views represent a party or not. Three I don't know these angry people you are talking about. It seems a made up thing like telling women they are hysterical to discount their opinions. Three I live in Minnesota and I have never in 30 years ran into anyone who has even heard of DU so why would I think DU has the pulse of the electorate or even other liberals? Four, I don't form any opinion based on what other people might think of my opinion and I don't care how other people feel about what I think. Five I talk to people in line at work and my family I am pretty sure most people aren't aware of what is talked about here and this means what? Six, whatever floats people's boats I don't care what they are passionate about.

But I do think that many Bernie supporters are that passionate, even if they don't know 'a tenth' as much of the trivia about politics that is discussed here.
