Hillary Clinton, in push for black support, promises to tackle racial disparities

http://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-election-blacks-idUSKCN0VP2JZ
U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton courted the critical black vote on Tuesday as she met with civil rights leaders in New York and promised in a speech to tackle "very real barriers" confronting African-Americans.

Clinton is seeking to maintain her lead among black voters over U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont, her rival for the Democratic nomination for the Nov. 8 election to succeed Democrat Barack Obama, the first black U.S. president.

The Clinton campaign said last week: "It will be very difficult, if not impossible, for a Democrat to win the nomination without strong levels of support among African-American and Hispanic voters."

Clinton's status as the Democratic front-runner was jolted this month when the former secretary of state beat Sanders by less than a percentage point in Iowa's caucuses and lost to him by more than 20 points in the New Hampshire primary. More than 90 percent of people in those states are white.

4. Rather than attack hillary or try to make us justify ourselves

Isnt it better to discuss your candidate? Because the other way (attacking hillary or trying to mak us justify) just puts peoples hackles up and they lose interest in bernie at all.

5. Been doing that already tonight... but hillary supporters just want to smear bernie over and over

again... so I thought I might get one of you to actually do something different than that...

It's been quite the pattern tonight ...almost...almost as if it came down from above... hilarious

6. Bernie supporters criticize hillary constantly

I have no idea why anyone expects bernie not to recieve the same treatment.

17. That's funny... even if you did win by 0.2% which its pretty obvious that wasn't possible, that

certainly can't be considered a win in the game of politics.. especially closely followed by a blowout loss in NH by 21% . You lose NV by even a little..then you can only win SC by 5-8%, or a tie..or.. having lost ... either way.. hillary will be ground hog daying it...

if they vote for hillary...

Perfect opportunity to run down at least the talking points for the reasons... but not much positivity for hillary on here or on anywhere...

19. How can believing in pie-in-the-sky promises make life better for anyone? I believe the fastest way

to Universal Health Coverage is adding a public option to the ACA, not re-litigating the whole health care issue. I think that is in everyone's best interest compared to letting GOPers repeal ACA and give us vouchers. Just one example.

Hoyt Said.

"I believe the fastest way to Universal Health Coverage is adding a public option to the ACA, not re-litigating the whole health care issue. I think that is in everyone's best interest compared to letting GOPers repeal ACA and give us vouchers. Just one example."

That, is clearly an answer. but you obviously can't give a good reply...so, deflect and ignore the answer.

23. .........

from the Nation:

Why Hillary Clinton Doesn’t Deserve the Black Vote
From the crime bill to welfare reform, policies Bill Clinton enacted—and Hillary Clinton supported—decimated black America.

By Michelle Alexander

Hillary Clinton loves black people. And black people love Hillary—or so it seems. Black politicians have lined up in droves to endorse her, eager to prove their loyalty to the Clintons in the hopes that their faithfulness will be remembered and rewarded. Black pastors are opening their church doors, and the Clintons are making themselves comfortably at home once again, engaging effortlessly in all the usual rituals associated with “courting the black vote,” a pursuit that typically begins and ends with Democratic politicians making black people feel liked and taken seriously. Doing something concrete to improve the conditions under which most black people live is generally not required.

Hillary is looking to gain momentum on the campaign trail as the primaries move out of Iowa and New Hampshire and into states like South Carolina, where large pockets of black voters can be found. According to some polls, she leads Bernie Sanders by as much as 60 percent among African Americans. It seems that we—black people—are her winning card, one that Hillary is eager to play.

And it seems we’re eager to get played. Again.

The love affair between black folks and the Clintons has been going on for a long time. It began back in 1992, when Bill Clinton was running for president. He threw on some shades and played the saxophone on The Arsenio Hall Show. It seems silly in retrospect, but many of us fell for that. At a time when a popular slogan was “It’s a black thing, you wouldn’t understand,” Bill Clinton seemed to get us. When Toni Morrison dubbed him our first black president, we nodded our heads. We had our boy in the White House. Or at least we thought we did.

Black voters have been remarkably loyal to the Clintons for more than 25 years. It’s true that we eventually lined up behind Barack Obama in 2008, but it’s a measure of the Clinton allure that Hillary led Obama among black voters until he started winning caucuses and primaries. Now Hillary is running again. This time she’s facing a democratic socialist who promises a political revolution that will bring universal healthcare, a living wage, an end to rampant Wall Street greed, and the dismantling of the vast prison state—many of the same goals that Martin Luther King Jr. championed at the end of his life. Even so, black folks are sticking with the Clinton brand. ...................(more)
