Chelsea gets it: ‘We Are Not Electing a King’

Posted on Feb 16, 2016

Chelsea Clinton has hit out at her mother’s Democratic rival, Sen. Bernie Sanders, leveling harsh criticism at his proposal to end mass incarceration in the U.S.

Chelsea told a town hall audience in Cleveland, Ohio, on Tuesday that Sanders’ goal “worried” her and is unrealistic, as most of the country’s inmates are held in state, not federal, prisons.

Sanders recently described the U.S. incarceration rate, which is the highest in the world, as an “international embarrassment,” pledging to prioritize criminal justice reform under his presidency. More than 2.2 million people are behind bars in the nation, according to the latest Department of Justice figures.

“We are not electing a king, we are electing a president,” Chelsea said. “We need someone who understands what they have to do in the job [as president] but also in partnership with Congress, governors and mayors.” She added, “My mother understands how the government works.”

a lot of the work your mother did was more than the usual sausage making of politics. When she sad "assad must go" she put us on a course for yet another war in Europe, this time with a Russia that remembers how your daddy kicked them while they were down. Half they reason they put up with Vlad the bear rider is because they remember how you mom and dad tried to turn them into another banana republic. Add to this that she undermined Obama for promising to keep ready to bomb Iran, did not help. Then, when she killed ideas like single payer, she was all the more willing to run right over those people, crushing the public option, and running over FDR ideas like Glass steagall.

In short, neither you, nor your daddy, not your mother get to demand praise for the suffering for the sake of democracy, only to run it flat when it stand in the way of your wallet. Take that advice, because since I know you will run for president against Geroge P. Bush in about 10-15 years, you will need a lot more than the family playbook.

And what does this have to do with the issue of mass incarceration.

This sort of "reasoning" is fallacious because attacking a distorted version of a position simply does not constitute an attack on the position itself. One might as well expect an attack on a poor drawing of a person to hurt the person

I won't vote for someone I wouldn't willingly give my life for. I don't believe Hillary understands what sending people to die for country really means, given her foreign policy record. If we go to war again under her, I don't believe it will be a war in defense of our Constitution. If we go to war again under her, I don't believe it will be for defending our allies. And I certainly don't believe that if we go to war under her again, it won't result in either the end of the world, or the forwarding of the tired tripe about American Exceptionalism.

I raised my hand and swore an oath to protect the United States, and the Constitution. I do not believe Clinton stands for either, and as such, I can't vote for her.
