2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumJust heard on MSNBC that Harry Belafonte will be
Endorsing Bernie.
It's obviously not official but Andrea Mitchell did mention it.
I love Belafonte. But more importantly, Harry is a very well respected activist and I hope this comes to pass.

(3,900 posts)It won't influence my vote, but it's a great endorsement for Sanders.
But I do wonder if the same people who dismiss icons like John Lewis as "irrelevant" and "tools" and "part of the Establishment" will be similarly dismissive of Belafonte. Or does his support of Sanders make him, by definition, relevant?

(39,909 posts)He has been a vocal advocate for human rights for a LONG time.
I remember back during Obama's first term, Obama asked Belafonte to "cut him some slack",
and Harry replied, "What makes you think we haven't?"
I will never forget that.
You can "tally" my vote with Harry Belafonte's.

(15,435 posts)I might not get up off the floor ever again! Harry Belafonte is really, really HUGE! I'm sure many younger people here don't quite understand his importance, but this is ONE MAN whose been a very, very, very long time activist with over the top credentials.
His endorsement is akin to a Warren endorsement. Belafonte is highly respected and has worked all his life for Equal Rights for more years than I can remember. As a white woman Boomer who supports Bernie, I'm ecstatic! I love this man, his gentle voice that has always promoted human rights and equality to people all over the world. Of course early on he became famous on par with Sinatra with his soothing voice singing songs many still remember. I know my older sisters used to play his songs all the time when I was very young.
I JUST LOVE HIM! Please let this be true, I have a feeling a former President who has devoted his life to helping Humanity as Belafonte has will be very happy. His name is Jimmy Carter.
Have my fingers crossed.

(5,471 posts)they should read his autobiography: My Song: A Memoir.
I've always been a huge fan and thought I knew a lot about him. I had no idea till I read this what a role he has played.

(15,435 posts)right now. I really love reading, and autobiographies are very enjoyable. I'm pretty much a non-fiction reader. I'm reading 2 books right now, but one of them is Thomas Piketty's "CAPITAL in the Twenty-First Century." A real eye opener and I highly recommend it. It's Bernie's message too.
Ok, just wrote it down, thanks again!

(22,491 posts)if it would be otherwise. He is a marvel of a man, activist of the left, with convictions that are as immutable as those of Mr. Bernie Sanders.
