Rasmutten daily: Obama leads both Romney and Santorum 48-41

In a potential Election 2012 matchup, the president posts a 48% to 41% lead over former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney.

Former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum trails the president by the same margin, 48% to 41%. Matchup results are updated daily at 9:30 a.m. Eastern

==============

I dont know what the trends are since Rasmussen requires payment to get the details. However, these numbers are looking very good. I was a bit concerned that Santorum might be a tougher candidate than Romney but this poll shows there is no difference at this point.

2. I suspect he will moderate a bit if he somehow miraculously wins the GOP nom.

On the surface the guy seems reasonable. Its only when you hear him go on one of his conservative rants that makes you realize this guy is dangerous. But if he is able to walk back some of those extreme comments he might get some of the indepedents to support him.

positions. The GE voter is not going to be impressed with positions these candidates has staked out during the Republican primary. While the candidate is bus backtracking and reformulating the message to appeal to the somewhat mainstream, the base is going to screaming "sellout". I doubt the flip-flopping will help much with the independents...but it may end up deflating the base who might be so disgusted as to either vote 3rd Party or not vote at all.

assuming he eventually wins this clownfest. Romney is already flip-flopping like a beached tuna, if he has to flip and flop more during the general, I cannot imagine any thoughtful voter believing anything he says.

4. I honestly think this is the higher water mark for the Republican challenger.

When the GE starts in earnest, the Republican is going to have to defend his remarks to an electorate way to the left of today's republican primary voter. There won't be much attacking by the challenger because he's going to be playing defense and spending most of his time respinning his own stated positions.

8. One could argue Romney is the most unelectable.

He is boring, lame, predictable, uninspiring and a gaffe machine. What more could you ask for in a political opponent?

win this no matter who they pick. They're all so magnificently flawed, but we still have to be vigilant because of these newly passed draconian voting laws, which are nothing more than a modern day version of the old "poll tax".

Hopefully they wont matter. It could be blowout if the economy keeps improving but yes we do need to stay vigilant and work hard to win this. You never know we these sneaky GOPers and voters who can be easily manipulated.

One thing I've almost always seen in these Obama vs. fill-in-the-blank-from-the-clown-car polls is that Romney has always had better numbers against the President than any of the other clowns. If Romney and Santorum have criss-crossed in that measure, it sure takes away from Mitt's "I'm the only one who has a chance of beating Obama" line.

It's not like the good times when Bachmann, Perry, and Cain would step all over each other, so that Mittens could float above the fray. He's right in the middle of it, and to the gun fight, he brought a spork.

Ras previously had obama leading Romney 50 to 40 and Santorum 46 to 42.RAS obviously didn't want to give Obama a giant lead
but RAS also doesn't want to be only polling that claims Santorum would be stronger than Romney.

Bottom line even RAS Is going with reality. This election Is moving In Obama's direction.
